Explain why more stars are circumpolar for observers at higher latitudes.

Explanation:

When you observe the night sky you will notice that the stars are moving. They rise from eastern horizon and set in the western horizon. It happens due to rotation of Earth. When observed closely you will notice that the all the stars seem to go around the pole star. Out of all the stars there are some stars which neither set not rise, such stars are called as Circumpolar stars. This means that they are always above the horizon. If we trace the path of such stars they will appear to make complete circle around the pole star.

Also, you will notice that the altitude of pole star (separation of pole star from the horizon in degrees) will depend on the location of observe on the Earth. This happens due to Earth being spherical. So if you are on equator the pole star will be on the horizon i.e. 0° altitude. If you are at Poles, altitude of the pole star will be 90°. Technically the altitude of pole star at any place on Earth is equal to the latitude of the place.

If the altitude of pole star varies and increases as you move towards higher latitude on Earth, the distance between horizon and pole star will also increase. This will result in more stars being circumpolar.

If you are at Poles, all the stars will be circumpolar and if you are at equator no star will be circumpolar.

Why doesn't the force of gravity change the speed of a bowling ball as it rolls along a bowling lane?
Oliga [24]
Because the gravitational force, which points downward, is perfectly balanced by the normal reaction of the floor of the bowling lane, which points upward. The two forces are equal in magnitude, so the net force acting vertically on the bowling ball is zero, therefore there is no acceleration along this direction. Moreover, since the ball is moving in the horizontal direction, the gravitational force has no component along this direction, so it does not change the velocity of the ball.

Most geologists accept radiometric dating techniques as valid because
Rus_ich [418]

Most geologists accept radiometric dating techniques as valid because radioactive elements decay at a constant and measurable rate.

Answer: Option C

Explanation:

Scientists prefer radioactive dating to carbon dating because it is more accurate in measuring. The analysis depends upon the radioactive decay of radioactive isotopes of any matter in a given rock or soil.

The parent atoms and daughter atoms are compared while studying, and hence age can be calculated easily. Radioactive decay depends upon the given half-life of the atom, which is a constant and is known. So, it would be very easy to calculate the number of progeny atoms and parent atoms and find out their age.

Why does helium have more spectral lines than hydrogen?
Lynna [10]

This is because Helium has two valence electrons compared to Hydrogen which has only one. Helium has more energy levels for an electron to jump thus more spectral lines to occur. The spectral lines relating to each change of energy level would be more grouped together and hence the greater chance of them falling in the visible range.
