It is 4.0 km from your home to the physics lab. As part of your physical fitness program, you could run that distance at 10 km/h

(which uses up energy at the rate of 700 W), or you could walk it leisurely at 3.0 km/h (which uses energy at 290 W).A. Which choice would burn up more energy? running or walkingB. How much energy (in joules) would it burn?C. Why is it that the more intense exercise actually burns up less energy than the less intense one?

Answer:

Explanation:

To solve this problem we have to take into account that the energy consumed per second is the power. Hence, by multipling the power and the time spent to arrive to the lab we obtain the total energy consumed.

But first we have to calculate the time

t_{1}=\frac{x}{v_{1}}=\frac{4km}{10\frac{km}{h}}=0.4h=0.4(3600s)=1440s\\t_{2}=\frac{x}{v_{2}}=\frac{4km}{3\frac{km}{h}}=1.3h=1.3(3600s)=4800s\\

Now we use E=W*t for both times

E_{1}=t_{1}W_{1}=(1440s)(700W)=1008000J\\E_{2}=t_{2}W_{2}=(4800s)(290W)=1392000J\\

A. Hence, by running the energy consumed is lower.

B.

E1=1008000J

E2=1392000J

C. Because the more intense exercise is made in a lower time in comparison with the less intense exercise, and higher the time, more energy is consumed.

A basketball player shoots toward a basket 4.9 m away and 3.0 m above the floor. If the ball is released 1.8 m above the floor a
Zolol [24]

Answer:

  v₀ = 6.64 m / s

Explanation:

This is a projectile throwing exercise

          x = v₀ₓ t

          y = y₀ + v_{oy} t - ½ g t²

In this case they indicate that y₀ = 1.8 m and the point of the basket is x=4.9m y = 3.0 m

the time to reach the basket is

        t = x / v₀ₓ

we substitute

        y- y₀ = \frac{ v_o \ x \ sin \theta  }{ v_o \ cos \theta} - \frac{1}{2} g \ \frac{x^2 }{v_o^2 \ cos^2 \theta }

        y - y₀ = x tan θ - \frac{ g \ x^2 }{ 2 \ cos^2 \theta } \ \frac{1}{v_o^2 }

we substitute the values

        3 -1.8 = 3.0 tan 60 - \frac{ 9.8 \ 3^2 }{2 \ cos^2 60 } \ \frac{1}{v_o^2}

        1.2 = 5.196 - 176.4 1 / v₀²

        176.4 1 / v₀² = 3.996

        v₀ = \sqrt{ \frac{ 176.4}{3.996} }

        v₀ = 6.64 m / s

Inessa [10]
For this problem, we would be using the formula: Vf^2 = Vi^2 + 2ad
where:
Vf = 400m/s
Vi = 300m/s
a = ?
d = 4.0km
= 4000m

400^2 = 300^2 + 2a4000
a = [ 160000 - 90000 ] / 8000
a = 8.75m/s^2
rounding it off to 2 significant figures, will give us 8.8 m/s^2.

An object experiences an acceleration of 6.8m/s2.As a result,it accelerates from rest to 24m/s.How much distance did it travel d
Hitman42 [59]

The distance covered by the object is 42.4 m

Explanation:

The motion of the object is a uniformly accelerated motion (at constant acceleration), therefore we can use the following suvat equation:

v^2 -u^2 = 2as

where

v is the final velocity

u is the initial velocity

a is the acceleration

s is the distance covered

For the object in this problem, we have:

u = 0 (it starts from rest)

v = 24 m/s (final velocity)

a=6.8 m/s^2

Solving for s, we find the distance travelled by the object:

s=\frac{v^2-u^2}{2a}=\frac{24^2-0}{2(6.8)}=42.4 m
