Answer:

410.254 N

Explanation:

Force: This can be defined as the product of the mass of a body. The Unit of force is Newton (N)

Deduced from the question,

Force applied to the box to start it moving = Force of friction.

Fₐ = F

Where Fₐ = Force applied to the box to start it moving, F = Force of friction.

But,

F = μR.......................... Equation 1

Where R = normal reaction, μ = coefficient of static friction.

R = W =  mg ( on a level surface)

Where m = mass of the box = 123 kg, g = acceleration due to gravity = 9.81 m/s²

R = 123×9.81

R = 1206.63 N.

Also, μ = 0.34

Substituting into equation 1

F = 1206.63×0.34

F = 410.254 N.

Thus the force applied to the box to start it moving = 410.254 N

A 1-kg rock is suspended from the tip of a horizontal meterstick at the 0-cm mark so that the meterstick barely balances like a
tigry1 [53]

Explanation:

Given that,

Mass if the rock, m = 1 kg

It is  suspended from the tip of a horizontal meter stick at the 0-cm mark so that the meter stick barely balances like a seesaw when its fulcrum is at the 12.5-cm mark.

We need to find the mass of the meter stick. The force acting by the stone is

F = 1 × 9.8 = 9.8 N

Let W be the weight of the meter stick. If the net torque is zero on the stick then the stick does not move and it remains in equilibrium condition. So, taking torque about the pivot.

9.8\times 12.5=W\times (50-12.5)\\\\W=\dfrac{9.8\times 12.5}{37.5}

W = 3.266 N

The mass of the meters stick is :

m=\dfrac{W}{g}\\\\m=\dfrac{3.266}{9.81}\\\\m=0.333\ kg

So, the mass of the meter stick is 0.333 kg.

A rocket burns fuel to create hot gases that explode violently out of the rocket engine. This explosion creates thrust. Thrust i
Lerok [7]

Answer:

Thrust due to fuel consumption must overcome gravitational force from the Earth to send the rocket up into space.

Explanation:

From the concept of Escape Velocity, derived from Newton's Law of Gravitation, definition of Work, Work-Energy Theorem and Principle of Energy Conservation, which is the minimum speed such that rocket can overcome gravitational forces exerted by the Earth, and according to the Tsiolkovski's Rocket Equation, which states that thrust done by the rocket is equal to the change in linear momentum of the rocket itself, we conclude that thrust due to fuel consumption must overcome gravitational force from the Earth to send the rocket up into space.
