A gas of unknown pressure is contained in a vertical cylinder with a piston, of mass 1.1 kg and diameter 10.0 cm. The piston is

free to move with negligible friction. A weight of mass 2.0 kg is placed on top of the piston. Knowing the atmospheric pressure (1.0 atm), find the pressure of the gas, in pascals.

Answer:

The answer the question, what is the pressure of the gas, in pascals is 101195.73 Pa

Explanation:

Firstly we list out the known variables

The known variables are

mass of piston = 1.1 kg, diameter of piston, D = 10.0 cm = 0.1 m

mass of weight = 2.0 kg atmospheric pressure = 1.0 atm

In this question the quantity required is the presssure of the gas in the cylinder after placing a weght on the piston

To solve this, we note that Pressure = Force per unit area

= Force/area, hence

We compute the area of the piston thus

Area = (πD²)÷4 = 0.0079 m²

While the sum of the mass of the piston and the added weight = 1.1 kg + 2.0 kg = 3.1 kg

The weight of the added mass and piston that is their force on the gas = W = Mass × gravity = 3.1 kg × 9.81 m/s² = 30.411 N

Therefore the pressure = 30.411N/(0.0079 m²) = 3870.73 Pascals

The pressure of the gas = pressure due to the piston and the added weight + pressure due to the atmosphere

thus pressure of the gas = 3870.73 Pa + 1.0 atm =3870.73 Pa + 101325 Pa =101195.73 Pa

The pressure of the gas, in pascals is 101195.73 Pa

How many moles of KF would need to be added to 2500 ml of water to make 1.2 M solution?
Oduvanchick [21]

The number of moles of KF needed to prepare the solution is 3 moles

What is molarity?

Molarity is defined as the mole of solute per unit litre of solution. Mathematically, it can be expressed as:

Molarity = mole / Volume

How to determine the mole of KF

 • Volume = 2500 mL = 2500 / 1000 = 2.5 L
 • Molarity = 1.2 M
 • Mole of KF =?

Molarity = mole / Volume

1.2 = mole of KF / 2.5

Cross multiply

Mole of KF = 1.2 × 2.5

Mole of KF = 3 moles

The radius of the smaller circle is 8 feet. The distance from the rim of the inner circle to the rim of the outer circle is 3 fe
postnew [5]

Answer:

178.98 sq. feet

Explanation:

The path and the garden has been shown in the figure below. The green area is the garden and the area in brown is the path.

It has been given that,

Radius of garden = 8 feet

So, the area of garden = 3.14 × 8 × 8 = 200.96 sq. feet

The total radius of the land including garden and path = 8 + 3 = 11 feet

So, the total are of land including garden and path = 3.14 × 11 × 11 = 379.94 sq. feet

So, the area of path = Total area of the land - area of garden

Area of path = 379.94 - 200.96 = 178.98 sq. feet

When can I use ideal gas law?
Elis [28]
Answer:

The ideal gas law can be used in stoichiometry problems in which chemical reactions involve gases. Standard temperature and pressure (STP) are a useful set of benchmark conditions to compare other properties of gases. At STP, gases have a volume of 22.4 L per mole.

HELP ITS DUE IN AN HOUR!!

What is a lattice position?

Explain
Andrew [12]

Explanation:

Crystallography. an arrangement in space of isolated points (lattice points ) in a regular pattern, showing the positions of atoms, molecules, or ions in the structure of a crystal.

If an atom experiences sufficient thermal activation, it can move to a neighboring lattice position.4 If the vibration frequency of the atom is v and the atom has Z nearest neighbors, the total number of jump attempts is vZ. However, only a small fraction of the attempts will be successful, with a probability depending on the ratio between the necessary activation energy for a single jump QD and the thermal activation kBT. The effective jump frequency ΓD is then

(5.6)

With each successful jump, the atom travels one atomic distance λ and the total traveling distance in unit time is thus ΓDλ. Substituting the jump frequency ΓD into the expression for the root mean square displacement of a random walker [equation (5.5)] and using the spatial coordinate r leads to
