An iron bar at 200c is placed in thermal contact with an identical iron bar at 120c in an isolated system
Step2247 [10]

Conduction: In the conduction, the heat is transferred from the hotter body to the colder body until the temperature on both bodies are equal.

In thermal equilibrium, there is no heat transfer as the heat is transferred till the temperature on the bodies are not same.

In the given problem, an iron bar at 200°C is placed in thermal contact with an identical iron bar at 120°C in an isolated system. After 30 minutes, the thermal equilibrium is attained. Then, the temperature on both iron bars are equal.Both iron bars are at 160°C in an isolated system.

But in an open system, the temperatures of the iron bars after 30 minutes would be less than 160°C. There will be heat lost to the surrounding. The room temperature is 25°C. There will be exchange of the heat occur between the iron bars and the surrounding. But It would take more than 30 minutes for both iron bars to reach 160°C because heat would be transferred less efficiently.

What is the molar mass of a gas if 0.281 g of the gas occupies a volume of 125 ml at a temperature 126 °c and a pressure of 777
AleksAgata [21]
<em>Answer :</em> 72.05 g/mol
<span>
<em>Explanation : </em>

Let's </span>assume that the given gas is an ideal gas. Then we can use ideal gas equation,<span>
PV = nRT<span>
</span>
Where,
P = Pressure of the gas (Pa)
V = volume of the gas (m³)
n = number of moles (mol)
R = Universal gas constant (8.314 J mol</span>⁻¹ K⁻¹)<span>
T = temperature in Kelvin (K)
<span>
The given data for the gas </span></span>is,<span>
P = 777 torr = 103591 Pa
V = </span>125 mL = 125 x 10⁻⁶ m³<span>
T = (</span>126 + 273<span>) = 399 K
R = 8.314 J mol</span>⁻¹ K⁻¹<span>
n = ?

By applying the formula,
103591 Pa x  </span>125 x 10⁻⁶ m³ = n x 8.314 J mol⁻¹ K⁻¹ x 399 K<span>
                                          n = 3.90 x 10</span>⁻³<span> mol

</span>Moles (mol) = mass (g) / molar mass (g/mol)<span>

Mass of the gas = </span><span>0.281 g
</span>Moles of the gas = 3.90 x 10⁻³ mol
<span>Hence,
   molar mass of the gas = mass / moles
                                          = 0.281 g / </span>3.90 x 10⁻³ mol
<span>                                          = 72.05 g/mol

</span>

How could you verify that you produced carbon dioxide in your combustion reaction? 2. what indication did you have that nh3 was
DanielleElmas [232]

1) Carbon dioxide is a gas, so when CO_{2} is evolved in the reaction, it appears as bubbles. The gas released extinguishes the fire and it can turn lime water milky.

Ca(OH)_{2} (aq) + CO_{2}(g) ----> CaCO_{3}(s) +H_{2}O(l)

2) When NH_{3} is released in a decomposition reaction we can identify by the strong pungent smell of the gas released.

3) Saturated citric acid can cause corrosion of the metal layers present in the pipes. So, before draining out any acid it is neutralized so that the pipes and other plumbing works do not get damaged leading to leaks in the drainage system.
