In Physics, 'work' has a very clear definition:

It's (strength of a force) times (distance through which the force acts).

'Work' has the units of Energy.

If you push against a shopping cart with 30 newtons of force, and
you keep pushing while the cart moves 4 meters, then you have
done (30 x 4) = 120 newton-meters of work = 120 "Joules".

3. An object of mass m is moving with a speed of v0 to the right on a horizontal frictionless surface, when it explodes into two
Naily [24]

Answer:

The speed of the other piece of the object is 13/4*v0, going to the right.

Explanation:

Assuming that no external forces acting during the explosion (as the time during which it happens is considered infinitesimal), total momentum must be conserved , same as it happens with the total mass, assuming that v₀ is much smaller than c (speed of light), so no conversion of mass into energy is done.

So, based on the information provided, we can write the following expression, assuming the positive direction to be the one  to the right:

m*v₀ = -3/5*m*(v₀/2) + 2/5*m*vₓ

Solving for vₓ, we have:

vₓ = 13/4*v₀, to the right, as the value obtained is positive.

If a tree of 5.5 meters casts a shadow of 3 meters. How high will a tower that gives a shadow of 15 meters be?
n200080 [17]

Answer:

The height of a tower would be 27.5 meters

Explanation:

Notice that in both cases you are dealing with diagrams representing vertical objects and shadows created by the sun, against the ground, so we are in the presence of right angle triangles which have in common another angle (that made by the rays of the sun. So we can use similar triangles and the proportion that is generated based on the quotient of similar sides to find the unknown height (h).

\frac{5.5}{3} =\frac{h}{15} \\h=\frac{(5.5)\,(15)}{3} \\h=27.5\,\,m

In levelling, the following staff readings were observed involving an inverted staff, A = 2.915 and B = -2.028. What is the rise
salantis [7]

Answer:

The rise from A to B is 0.887

Solution:

As per the question:

The following reading of an inverted staff is given as:

A = 2.915

B = -2.028

Here, for inverted staff, the greater reading shows greater elevation and lesser reading shows lower elevation.

Thus

The rise from A to B is given as:

A - B = 2.915 - 2.028 = 0.887

What happens to energy and matter when a wave moves through space?
vivado [14]
