A 2.8-kg cart is rolling along a frictionless, horizontal track towards a 1.2-kg cart that is held initially at rest. The carts

are loaded with strong magnets that cause them to attract one another. Thus, the speed of each cart increases. At a certain instant before the carts collide, the first cart's velocity is +4.6 m/s, and the second cart's velocity is -2.7 m/s. (a) What is the total momentum of the system of the two carts at this instant? (b) What was the velocity of the first cart when the second cart was still at rest?

Answer with Explanation:

We are given that

Mass of one cart,m_1=2.8 kg

Mass of second cart,m_2=1.2 kg

Initial velocity of one cart,u_1=4.6m/s

Initial velocity of second cart,u_2=-2.7 m/s

a.Total momentum,P=m_1u_1+m_2u_2=2.8(4.6)+1.2(-2.7)

P=9.64 kgm/s

b.Velocity of second cart,v_2=0

According to law of conservation of momentum

Initial momentum=Final momentum

9.64=2.8v_1+1.2\times 0

v_1=\frac{9.64}{2.8}

v_1=3.44m/s

What is the kinetic energy of a 50-kg child running to catch the school bus at
Vinvika [58]

Answer:

Option C

100 J

Explanation:

Kinetic energy, KE is given by

KE=0.5mv^{2} where m is the mass and v is the velocity

Substituting 50 Kg for mass, m and 2 m/s for velocity v then we obtain

KE=0.5*50*2^{2}=100 J

Therefore, the child's kinetic energy is equivalent to 100 J

Monochromatic light of wavelength λ=136.8μ m is shone at normal incidence through a thin film of thickness t resting atop a full
inn [45]

Answer:

1.8 × 10⁻⁸ Hm

Explanation:

Given that:

The refractive index of the film = 19

The wavelength of the light = 136.8 μ m

The thickness can be calculated by using the formula shown below as:

Thickness=\frac {\lambda}{4\times n}

Where, n is the refractive index of the film

{\lambda} is the wavelength

So, thickness is:

Thickness=\frac {136.8\ \mu\ m}{4\times 19}

Thickness = 1.8 μ m

Since,

1 μ m = 10⁻⁸ Hm

So,

Thickness = 1.8 × 10⁻⁸ Hm

A 0.320 kg ball approaches a bat horizontally with a speed of 14.0 m/s and after getting hit by the bat, the ball moves in the o
katen-ka-za [31]

Answer:

<h2>42.67N</h2>

Explanation:

Step one:

<u>Given </u>

mass m= 0.32kg

intital velocity, u= 14m/s

final velocity v= 22m/s

time= 0.06s

Step two:

<u>Required</u>

Force F

the expression for the force is

F=mΔv/t

F=0.32*(22-14)/0.06

F=(0.32*8)/0.06

F=2.56/0.06

F=42.67N

The average force exerted on the bat 42.67N
