A beetle with a mass of 15.0 g is initially at rest on the outer edge of a horizontal turntable that is also initially at rest.

The turntable, which is free to rotate with no friction about an axis through its center, has a mass of 75.0 g and can be treated as a uniform disk. The beetle then starts to walk around the edge of the turntable, traveling at an angular velocity of 0.0500 rad/s clockwise with respect to the turntable.
What is the angular velocity of the turntable (with respect to you)? Use a positive sign if the answer is clockwise, and a negative sign if the answer is counter-clockwise.

Answer:

- 8.33 x 10⁻³ rad /s ( anticlockwise)

Explanation:

The rotational movement of beetle and turntable is caused by torque generated by internal forces , we can apply conservation of  angular momentum.

That is ,

I₁ ω₁ = I₂ω₂ ,   ω₁ and ω₂ are angular velocity of beetle and turntable respectively.

ω₁ + ω₂ = .05 radian /s ( given )

Momentum of inertia of beetle I₁ = mass x (distance from axis)²

= 15 x 10⁻³ x R² ( R is radius of the turntable )

Momentum of inertia of turntable  I₂ =1/2 mass x (distance from axis)²

= 75/2 x 10⁻³ x R² ( R is radius of the turntable )

I₁ ω₁ = I₂ω₂ ,

15 x 10⁻³ x R² x ( .05 -  ω₂ ) = 75/2 x 10⁻³ x R² ω₂

15 x  ( .05 -  ω₂ ) = 75/2 x  ω₂

.75 - 15ω₂ = 37.5ω₂

.75 = 52.5  ω₂

ω₂ = - 14.3  x 10⁻³ rad /s ( anticlockwise)

The distance between a speaker and a listener is 8.0 m. Determine the frequency of the sound wave if exactly 20 waves are formed
dmitriy555 [2]

The frequency of the wave is 6800 Hz

<u>Explanation:</u>

Given:

Wave number, n = 20

Speed of light, v = 340 m/s

Frequency, f = ?

we know:

wave number = \frac{frequency}{speed of light}

20 = \frac{f}{340 m/s} \\\\f = 20 X 340 s^-^1\\\\f = 6800 Hz

Therefore, the frequency of the wave is 6800 Hz

An electron of mass 9.11×10−31 kgkg leaves one end of a TV picture tube with zero initial speed and travels in a straight line t
ki77a [65]

Explanation:

We will use the equations of constant acceleration to find out a_{x} and time t.

As we know that the initial speed is zero. So

(a)

v_{0x} = 0

x - x_{o} = 1.25×10^{-2}m

v_{x} = 3.3×10^{6}m/s

v^{2} _{x} =  v^{2} _{x_{o} } + 2a_{x} (x - x_{o} )

a_{x} = \frac{v^{2} _{x} - v^{2} _{ox} }{2(x - x_{o}) }

   = \frac{(3.3 * 10^{6})^{2}  - 0 }{2(1.25 * 10^{-2}) }

   = 4.356×10^{14} m/s²

(b)

v_{x} = v_{ox} + a_{x}t

t = v_{x} - vo_{x}/a_{x}

t = \frac{3.00 * 10^{6} }{4.356*10^{14} } = 6.8870×10^{-9}s

(c)

ΣF_{x} = ma_{x}

       = (9.11×10^{-31})(4.356×10^{14}m/s²)

       = 3.968×10^{-16} N

Identify the number of neutrons in one atom of sulfur with an isotopic mass number of 34 amu.
Musya8 [376]
So, using the periodic table of elements, we know that the atomic number of sulfur is 16, which stands for the number of protons/electrons in the atom. Since the mass number, in this case is 34, is the sum of protons and neutrons, all we have to do is subtract 16 from 34, which will give us 18, the number of neutrons for this isotope of sulfur. :)
