A beetle with a mass of 15.0 g is initially at rest on the outer edge of a horizontal turntable that is also initially at rest.

The turntable, which is free to rotate with no friction about an axis through its center, has a mass of 75.0 g and can be treated as a uniform disk. The beetle then starts to walk around the edge of the turntable, traveling at an angular velocity of 0.0500 rad/s clockwise with respect to the turntable.
What is the angular velocity of the turntable (with respect to you)? Use a positive sign if the answer is clockwise, and a negative sign if the answer is counter-clockwise.

Answer:

- 8.33 x 10⁻³ rad /s ( anticlockwise)

Explanation:

The rotational movement of beetle and turntable is caused by torque generated by internal forces , we can apply conservation of  angular momentum.

That is ,

I₁ ω₁ = I₂ω₂ ,   ω₁ and ω₂ are angular velocity of beetle and turntable respectively.

ω₁ + ω₂ = .05 radian /s ( given )

Momentum of inertia of beetle I₁ = mass x (distance from axis)²

= 15 x 10⁻³ x R² ( R is radius of the turntable )

Momentum of inertia of turntable  I₂ =1/2 mass x (distance from axis)²

= 75/2 x 10⁻³ x R² ( R is radius of the turntable )

I₁ ω₁ = I₂ω₂ ,

15 x 10⁻³ x R² x ( .05 -  ω₂ ) = 75/2 x 10⁻³ x R² ω₂

15 x  ( .05 -  ω₂ ) = 75/2 x  ω₂

.75 - 15ω₂ = 37.5ω₂

.75 = 52.5  ω₂

ω₂ = - 14.3  x 10⁻³ rad /s ( anticlockwise)

A particular satellite with a mass of m is put into orbit around Ganymede (the largest moon of Jupiter) at a distance 300 km fro
sergij07 [2.7K]

Answer:

F = 402.18 N

Explanation:

Given that,

A particular satellite with a mass of m is put into orbit around Ganymede (the largest moon of Jupiter) at a distance 300 km from the surface. Let the mass of the satellite is 350 kg.

We need to find the gravitational force of attraction between the satellite and the moon.

The formula for the gravitational force is given by :

F=G\dfrac{Mm}{(R+h)^2}

M is mass of Ganymede

m is mass of satellite

R is Radius of Ganymede

h is distance = 300 km

Putting all the values,

F=6.67\times 10^{-11}\times \dfrac{1.48\times 10^{23}\times 350}{(2631\times 10^{3}+300\times 10^3)^2}\\F=402.18\ N

So, the required force of attraction between the satellite and the moon is 402.18 N.

( 8c5p79) A certain force gives mass m1 an acceleration of 13.5 m/s2 and mass m2 an acceleration of 3.5 m/s2. What acceleration
Talja [164]

Answer:

4.725 m/s^{2}

Explanation:

We know that from Newton's second law of motion, F=ma hence making acceleration the subject then a=\frac {F}{m}  where a is acceleration, F is force and m is mass

Also making mass the subject of the formula m=\frac {F}{a}

For m1= \frac {F}{13.5} and m2=\frac {F}{3.5} hence F=(m2-m1)a= (\frac {F}{3.5}-\frac {F}{13.5})a=0.2116402116\\\frac {1}{a}=0.2116402116\\a=4.725 m/s^{2}

Naturally occurring element X exists in three isotopic forms: X-28 (27.977 amu, 92.23% abundance), X-29 (28.976 amu, 4.67% abund
vova2212 [387]

Answer:

C. 28.09 amu

Explanation:

The natural occurring element exist in 3 isotopic forms: namely X-28 (27.977 amu, 92.23% abundance),  X-29 (28.976 amu, 4.67% abundance) and  X-30 (29.974 amu, 3.10% abundance).

The atomic weight of elements depends on the isotopic abundance. If you know the fractional abundance and the mass of the isotopes the atomic weight can be computed.

The atomic weight is computed as follows:

atomic weight = mass of X-28 × fractional abundance + mass of X-29 × fractional abundance + mass of  X-30 × fractional abundance

atomic weight = 27.977 × 0.9223 + 28.976 × 0.0467 + 29.974 ×  0.0310

atomic weight = 25.8031871 + 1.3531792 + 0.929194

atomic weight = 28.0855603 amu

To 2 decimal place atomic weight = 28.09 amu

A shopper walks westward 2.8 meters in the first 5 minutes and then eastward 9.2 meters in the next 10 minutes. What is the shop
Alecsey [184]

Answer:

12m

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Distance walked westward  = 2.8m

Time of travel  = 5min

Distance walked eastward = 9.2m

Time of travel  = 10min

Unknown:

The total shopper's travel distance  = ?

Solution:

Total distance traveled is the sum of the length of path covered by a body. It is a scalar quantity.

 Total distance = distance walked westward + distance walked eastward

  Total distance  = 2.8m + 9.2m  = 12m
