General Howe and the British regrouped after losing the hill.

Explanation:

British forces marched to Breed's Hill on 17 June under the order of Major General William Howe. When the British Army marched in waves toward the Americans, Colonel William Prescott issued orders to avoid the fire until British troops came to clear sight in an attempt to protect the dwindling supply of ammunition to the Americans. Many British soldiers have been killed or maimed; the remainder has withdrawn down the hill. In a second wave, the British stormed the hill once again but met with the same fate. So they withdrew again, suffering a large number of casualties.  Eventually the British took the hill in the third attempt but at a great cost of casualties.
