Which is the correct lewis structure for ethylene, c2h4?

Remember this, when trying to find a valid lewis structure, every single atom must have a total of 8 shared electrons (full octet). Since I only have 4 hydrogens to work with, two on each carbon, I assumed a double bond in the middle. This way, every atom has a full octet, except for hydrogen which is most stable with just two electrons. If there were just a single bond in between the carbons, each carbon would only have a total of 6 shared electrons which violates the octet rule. So a double bond is a must. This is ethylene by the way.

Which of the following is an oxidation-reduction reaction? Fe2O3 3CO Right arrow. 2Fe 3CO2 CuSO4 2NaOH Right arrow. Cu(OH)2 Na2S
Damm [24]

The reaction, Fe2O3 + 3CO------> 2Fe + 3CO2 is an oxidation-reduction reaction.

An oxidation-reduction reaction is a reaction in which there is a change in oxidation number from left to right in the reaction. This is because, a specie is oxidized and another specie is reduced.

In the reaction;  Fe2O3 + 3CO------> 2Fe + 3CO2, we can see that the oxidation number of iron decreased from +3 on the left hand side to zero on the right hand side. The oxidation number of carbon was increased from + 2 to +4.

Classify the following as a type of potential energy or kinetic energy (use the letters K or P)
Zanzabum
K, P, K, K, P, K, K, P, K, P. If it is moving, it is kinetic, if it isn't, it's potential. the sugar one is a little tricky using that method though, because we generally consider this in terms of spacial movement, but sugar holds energy which is later released by your body to allow you to move.the chemical bonds have potential energy because they release energy when broken.

Nitrogen monoxide, NO, reacts with hydrogen, H₂, according to the following equation.
Anvisha [2.4K]

Answer : The rate law for the overall reaction is, Rate=k[NO]^2[H_2]

Explanation :

Rate law : It is defined as the expression which expresses the rate of the reaction in terms of molar concentration of the reactants with each term raised to the power their stoichiometric coefficient of that reactant in the balanced chemical equation.

As we are given the mechanism for the reaction :

Step 1 : 2NO+H_2\rightarrow N_2+H_2O_2    (slow)

Step 2 : H_2O_2+H_2\rightarrow 2H_2O     (fast)

Overall reaction : 2NO+2H_2\rightarrow N_2+2H_2O

The rate law expression for overall reaction should be in terms of NO\text{ and }H_2.

As we know that the slow step is the rate determining step. So,

The slow step reaction is,

2NO+H_2\rightarrow N_2+H_2O_2

The expression of rate law for this reaction will be,

Rate=k[NO]^2[H_2]

Hence, the rate law for the overall reaction is, Rate=k[NO]^2[H_2]
