Which is the correct lewis structure for ethylene, c2h4?

Chemistry

Remember this, when trying to find a valid lewis structure, every single atom must have a total of 8 shared electrons (full octet). Since I only have 4 hydrogens to work with, two on each carbon, I assumed a double bond in the middle. This way, every atom has a full octet, except for hydrogen which is most stable with just two electrons. If there were just a single bond in between the carbons, each carbon would only have a total of 6 shared electrons which violates the octet rule. So a double bond is a must. This is ethylene by the way.

. In which reaction is nitric acid acting as an oxidising agent?
Talja [164]

Answer:

B. Cu + 4HNO3 → Cu(NO3)2 + 2H2O + 2NO2

Explanation:

Hello,

In this case, we should understand oxidizing agents as those substances able to increase the oxidation state of another substance, therefore, in B. reaction we notice that copper oxidation state at the beginning is zero (no bonds are formed) and once it reacts with nitric acid, its oxidation states raises to +2 in copper (II) nitrate, thus, in B. Cu + 4HNO3 → Cu(NO3)2 + 2H2O + 2NO2 nitritc acid is acting as the oxidizing agent.

Moreover, in the other reactions, copper (A.), sodium (C. and D.) remain with the same initial oxidation state, +2 and +1 respectively.

Regards.

The formula for molality---> m = moles solute/ Kg of solvent

the solute here is NH₃ because it's the one with less amount. which makes water the solvent.

1) let's convert the grams of NH₃ to moles using the molar mass

molar mass of NH₃= 14.0 + (3 x 1.01)= 17.03 g/ mol

15.0 g (1 mol/ 17.03 g)= 0.881 mol NH₃

2) let's convert the grams of water into kilograms (just divide by 1000)

250.0 g= 0.2500 kg

3) let's plug in the values into the molality formula

molality= mol/ Kg---> 0.881 mol/ 0.2500 kg= 3.52 m

What happens to iron when it melts?
iren [92.7K]

Answer:

B. It undergoes a physical change.

Explanation:

Hello there!

In this case, since we know that chemical changes lead to the formation of new atoms and/or compounds due to the bonds rearrangement of the initial substances and the physical changes occur without changing the composition of the initial substances, we can infer that, since melting is a process that changes the phase of matter from solid to liquid without changing the identity of the initial substance, the answer to this question would be B. It undergoes a physical change. because the other options describe chemical changes.

Best regards!
