Which is the correct lewis structure for ethylene, c2h4?

Chemistry

Remember this, when trying to find a valid lewis structure, every single atom must have a total of 8 shared electrons (full octet). Since I only have 4 hydrogens to work with, two on each carbon, I assumed a double bond in the middle. This way, every atom has a full octet, except for hydrogen which is most stable with just two electrons. If there were just a single bond in between the carbons, each carbon would only have a total of 6 shared electrons which violates the octet rule. So a double bond is a must. This is ethylene by the way.

The answer is Option C (Divergent Plate Boundary)

Mapping efforts have shown that mid-ocean ridges are discontinuous structures that cut at right angles to its length at various transform faults. They typically demarcate the boundary between two tectonic plates, and are therefore called divergent plate boundaries.

Each of the following names is wrong. Draw structures based on them, and correct the names:(b) 1,1,1-trimethylheptane
devlian [24]

The correct IUPAC name of 1,1,1-trimethylheptane is 2,2-dimethyloctane.

IUPAC NAME:

It is systematic way of nomenclature of organic compounds.

It is based on the position of functional groups, preference of the functional group, long or short chain of carbon, preference of double bond, single and triple bond, branching of carbon chain, etc.

The given compound is 1,1,1-trimethylheptane.

The given name is wrong according to IUPAC name because the numbering of carbon atom should be done in that way in which the carbon atom chain is largest.

Here, in this case the numbering is done from right side. Thus the largest carbon chain have 8 carbon atom.

If the numbering is done according to the question, number of carbon atom in straight chain is 7.

Thus, we concluded that the Correct IUPAC name of 1,1,1-trimethylheptane is 2,2-dimethyloctane.

46g of a mineral contained 16g copper, 14g iron and 16g sulphur. Calculate the empirical
pochemuha

Answer:

CuFeS2

Explanation:

Calculate the moles of each substance by doing moles= mass/relative atomic mass. you should get 0.25 moles of copper and iron and 0.5 moles of sulfur. Then divide all of those numbers by 0.25 (as its the lowest value) you should get 1 for copper and iron and 2 for sulfur. This represents the ratio that they are in within the mineral.

A sample of fluorine gas has a volume of 5.63 L at 14°C and standard pressure. What will be the pressure in atm if the moles of
soldier1979 [14.2K]

With standard pressure there is a set list of values. (at STP), most common is 760torr. So whenever you see "at STP" or "at standard temperature pressure" you will use 760torr for pressure. Same thing goes with temperature, if you're not given temp and it says at STP you will use 273K.

For this problem:

You will be using the combined gas law:

(Pressure 1) x (Volume 1) / (Temp. 1) = (Pressure 2) x (Volume 2) / (Temp. 2)

(760torr) x (5.63L) / (287K) = (?) (9.21L) / (287K)

Pressure 2 = 465torr

*Hope this clarifies STP for you! :)

Why is modern chemistry considered scientific??
svp [43]

I know I'm super late to answering this because it's a two week old question, but I'll just answer it any way lol.

The main reason why modern chemistry is considered scientific is because to confirm their results, scientists use the scientific method.
