<u> Definition</u> :   Limiting reagent is the substance in a chemical reaction that is consumed when chemical reaction is complete.

step 1 :  first write the chemical reaction and then balanced the chemical equation

C_{2}H_{4} + H_{2} \rightarrow C_{2}H_{6}

step 2 :  convert given masses into moles.

\text{ moles of } C_{2}H_{4}=10.5 (g)/ 28 (\text{ g/mole)} = 0.375 \text{ moles}

\text{moles of }H_{2}= 0.40 (g)/ 2 (g/mole) = 0.20 moles

step 3 :  Now find the limiting reagent.

\text{ moles of }C_{2}H_{4} \text{ in excess}= 0.375-0.20 = 0.175 \text{moles}

Now we conclude that  C_{2}H_{4} is the limiting reagent.

step 4 :  Amount of the excess reactant i.e C_{2}H_{4}

\text{ mass of }C_{2}H_{4}= 0.175 (moles) \ast 28 (g/mole) = 4.9 g

A pharmacy intern is asked to prepare 3 L of a 30% w/v solution. T he pharmacy stocks the active ingredient in 8-ounce bottles o
MariettaO [177]

<u>Answer:</u> The number of bottles that will be needed are 6

<u>Explanation:</u>

We are given:

Amount of solution, the intern is asked to prepare = 3 L = 3000 mL   (Conversion factor:  1 L = 1000 mL)

Strength of solution needed = 30 % (w/v)

This means that in 100 mL of solution, the solute present is 30 grams

So, in 3000 mL of solution, the solute present will be = \frac{30}{100}\times 3000=900g

Active ingredient present in 1 bottle = 8 ounce of 70 % (w/v)

<u>Conversion factor used:</u> 1 ounce = 29.57 mL

So, 8ounce\times \frac{29.57mL}{1ounce}=236.6mL

Amount of active ingredient present in 1 bottle = 236.6\times \frac{70}{100}=165.6g

To calculate the number of bottles, we need to divide the total amount of solution needed by the amount of active ingredient present in 1 bottle, we get:

\text{Number of bottles}=\frac{\text{Amount of solution to prepare}}{\text{Amount of active ingredient in 1 bottle}}

Putting values in above equation, we get:

\text{Number of bottles}=\frac{900g}{165.6g}\\\\\text{Number of bottles}=5.43\approx 6

Hence, the number of bottles that will be needed are 6

A 845 mL NaCl solution is diluted to a volume of 1.19 L and a concentration of 6.00 M . What was the initial concentration? Expr
marysya [2.9K]

The initial concentration was 8.45M

Step 1: Given data

Initial concentration (C₁): ?

Initial volume (V₁): 635 mL = 0.845 L

Final concentration (C₂): 6.00 M

Final volume (V₂): 1.19 L

Step 2: Calculate the initial concentration

We have a concentrated NaCl solution and we want to prepare a diluted one. We will use the dilution rule.

C₁ × V₁ = C₂ × V₂

C₁ = C₂ × V₂  / V₁

C₁ = 6.00 M × 1.19 L  / 0.845 L

C₁ = 8.45 M

Thus, The initial concentration was 8.45M
