A typical value for the coefficent of quadratic air resistance on a cyclist is around c=0.20 N/m(m/s)2. Assuming thath the total

mass (cyclist plust cycle) is m = 80 kg and that at t = 0 the cyclist has an intial speed v=20m/s (abouit 45 mi/h) and starts to coast to a stop under the influence of air resistance, find the characteristic time τ=m/cvo. How long will it take him to slow to 15 m/s? What about 10 m/s? And 5 m/s? (Below about 5 m/s, it is certainly not reasonable to ignore friction, so there is no point pursuing this calculation to lower speeds.)

Answer:

Characteristic time τ=20 s

When V = 15 m/s

t = 6.66 s

When V = 10 m/s

t = 20 s

When V = 5 m/s

t = 60 s

Explanation:

Given that

c=0.20 N/m(m/s)2

m = 80 kg

Vo=20m/s

Characteristic time τ=m/cvo.

\tau =\dfrac{m}{c.V_o}

\tau =\dfrac{80}{0.2\times 20}

Characteristic time τ=20 s

We know that velocity after t time given as follows

V =\dfrac{V_o}{1+\dfrac{\tau}{t}}

When V = 15 m/s

15 =\dfrac{20}{1+\dfrac{20}{t}}

t = 6.66 s

When V = 10 m/s

10 =\dfrac{20}{1+\dfrac{20}{t}}

t = 20 s

When V = 5 m/s

5 =\dfrac{20}{1+\dfrac{20}{t}}

t = 60 s

I really need help this was due Friday! I will mark brainiest!
Svetllana [295]

Answer:

Average speed = (total distance covered) / (time to cover the distance)

You only need the first and last points from the table.

First point: Position=0, Time=0

Last point: Position= 16.34, Time = 2.34 hours

Total distance covered = 16.34 (miles ?  km ?)

Time to cover the distance = 2.34 hours

Average speed = (16.34 miles) / (2.34 hours)

Average speed = 6.983 mile/hour

4. A coconut falls from a tree and lands on the ground 2 s later. What
Ulleksa [173]

Answer:

vf=19.6

h=19.6

FROM FIRST EQUATION that is vf=vi+gt

then vf = 0+9.8*2=19.6m/s

FROM SECOND EQUATION that is H=vi*t+1/2gt²

then H=0*2+1/2*9.8*2²=19.6

What effect does force have on the motion of an object?
xeze [42]

Answer:

When a force acts on an object that is stationary or not moving, the force will cause the object to move, provided there are no other forces preventing that movement. If you throw a ball, you are pushing on it to start its movement. If you drop an object, the force of gravity causes it to move.

<em>hope this helps :)</em>

A 1.5-kilogram cart initially moves at 2.0 meters per second. It is brought to rest by a constant net force in 0.30 second. What
AnnZ [28]
Acceleration = (change in speed) / (time for the change)

Change in speed = (speed at the end) minus (speed at the beginning.

The cart's acceleration is

                               (0 - 2 m/s) / (0.3 sec)

                           = ( -2 / 0.3 ) (m/s²)  =  -(6 and 2/3) m/s² .

Newton's second law of motion says

                             Force = (mass) x (acceleration) .

For this cart:      Force = (1.5 kg) x ( - 6-2/3 m/s²)

                                       = ( - 1.5 x 20/3 ) (kg-m/s²)

<span>                                       =      </span>- 10 newtons .

<span>The force is negative because it acts opposite to the direction </span>
<span>in which the cart is moving, it causes a negative acceleration, </span>
<span>and it eventually stops the cart.</span>
