An insulated Thermos contains 140 cm3 of hot coffee at 85.0°C. You put in a 15.0 g ice cube at its melting point to cool the cof

fee. By how many degrees has your coffee cooled once the ice has melted and equilibrium is reached? Treat the coffee as though it were pure water and neglect energy exchanges with the environment. The specific heat of water is 4186 J/kg·K. The latent heat of fusion is 333 kJ/kg. The density of water is 1.00 g/cm3.

Answer:

T = 69^o C

Explanation:

Here at thermal equilibrium we can say that thermal energy given by Hot coffee is equal to the thermal energy absorbed by ice cubes

So here we have

Q_{ice} = Q_{coffee}

now since ice cubes are added into coffee when it is at melting temperature

So here we can say that final temperature of coffee is T degree C

Now we have

m_1L + m_1c_1\Delta T_1 = m_2c_2\Delta T_2

here we have

m_1 = 15 gram

L = 333 kJ/kg = 333 J/g[/tex]

c_1 = c_2 = 4186 J/kg C = 4.186 J/g C

\Delta T_1 = T - 0

\Delta T_2 = 85 - T

now we have

15(333) + 15(4.186)(T - 0) = 140(4.186)(85 - T)

4995 + 62.79T = 49813.4 - 586.04T

648.83 T = 44818.4

T = 69^o C

A thin disk of mass 2.2 kg and radius 61.2 cm is suspended by a horizonal axis perpendicular to the disk through its rim. The di
Alinara [238K]

Answer: The period of the subsequent simple harmonic motion is 1.004 sec.

Explanation:

The given data is as follows.

  Mass of disk (m) = 2.2 kg,     radius of the disk (r) = 61.2 cm,

Formula to calculate the moment of inertia around the center of mass is as follows.

          I_{cm} = \frac{1}{2}mr^{2}

                     = \frac{1}{2} \times 2.2 kg \times (61.2)^{2}

                     = 0.412 kg m^{2}

Also,

Distance between center of mass and axis of rotation (d) = r = 0.612 m

Moment of inertia about the axis of rotation (I)

        I = I_{cm} + md^{2}

       I = 0.412 + (2.2) \times (0.612)^{2}

          = 0.339 kgm^{2}

Now, we will calculate the time period as follows.

        T = 2\pi sqrt{\frac{I}{mgd})

        T = 2 \times 3.14 sqrt{(\frac{0.339}{2.2 \times 9.8 \times 0.612}

        T = 1.435 sec

      T = 2 \times 3.14 \times 0.16

          = 1.004 sec

Thus, we can conclude that the period of the subsequent simple harmonic motion is 1.004 sec.

Which of the following statements correctly describe the various applications listed above?
fgiga [73]

Answer:

The answer is "c,d,e, and g".

Explanation:

The correct choices can be defined as follows:

  • Higher-frequency microwaves aren't used in any of these systems.
  • Infrared waves aren't seen in each of these technologies.
  • Its shortest wavelength of all of the technologies listed is the above radiation generated by certain wireless networks.
  • These devices all produce waves of wavelengths ranging from 0.10 to 10.0 cm.
