Copper wire of diameter 0.289 cm is used to connect a set of appliances at 120 V, which draw 1850 W of power total. The resistiv

ity of copper is 1.68×10−8Ω⋅m.

Answer:

(a) The power wasted for 0.289 cm wire diameter is 15.93 W

(b) The power wasted for 0.417 cm wire diameter is 7.61 W

Explanation:

Given;

diameter of the wire, d = 0.289 cm = 0.00289 m

voltage of the wire, V = 120 V

Power drawn, P = 1850 W

The resistivity of the wire, ρ = 1.68 x 10⁻⁸ Ω⋅m

Area of the wire;

A = πd²/4

A = (π x 0.00289²) / 4

A = 6.561 x 10⁻⁶ m²

(a) At 26 m of this wire, the resistance of the is

R = ρL / A

R = (1.68 x 10⁻⁸  x 26) / 6.561 x 10⁻⁶

R = 0.067 Ω

Current in the wire is calculated as;

P = IV

I = P / V

I = 1850 / 120

I = 15.417 A

Power wasted = I²R

Power wasted = (15.417²)(0.067)

Power wasted = 15.93 W

(b) when a diameter of 0.417 cm is used instead;

d = 0.417 cm = 0.00417 m

A = πd²/4

A = (π x 0.00417²) / 4

A = 1.366 x 10⁻⁵ m²

Resistance of the wire at 26 m length of wire and  1.366 x 10⁻⁵ m² area;

R = ρL / A

R = (1.68 x 10⁻⁸  x 26) / 1.366 x 10⁻⁵

R = 0.032 Ω

Power wasted = I²R

Power wasted = (15.417²)(0.032)

Power wasted = 7.61 W

A 32-cm-long solenoid, 1.8 cm in diameter, is to produce a 0.30-T magnetic field at its center. If the maximum current is 4.5 A,
daser333 [38]

Answer:

<h2>16,931 turns</h2>

Explanation:

The magnetic field produced is expressed using the formula

B = \frac{\mu_0NI}{L}

B is the magnetic field = 0.30T

I is the current produced in the coil = 4.5A

\mu_0 is the magnetic permittivity in vacuum = 1.26*10^-6Tm/A

L is the length of the solenoid = 32 cm = 0.32 m

N is the number of turns in the solenoid.

Making N the subject of the formula from the equation above;

B = \frac{\mu_0NI}{L}\\\\BL = \mu_0NI\\\\Dividing\ both\ sides \ by \ \mu_0I\\\\\frac{BL}{\mu_0I} =\frac{\mu_oNI}{\mu_0I} \\\\

N = \frac{BL}{\mu_0I}

Substituting the give values to get N;

N = \frac{0.3*0.32}{1.26*10^{-6} * 4.5}\\\\N = \frac{0.096}{0.00000567} \\\\N = 16,931.21

The number of turns the solenoid must have is approximately 16,931 turns

Give examples of plants that can reproduce by vegetative reproduction.
marishachu [46]

Answer:

Some examples of vegetative propagation are farmers creating repeated crops of apples, corn, mangoes or avocados through asexual plant reproduction rather than planting seeds. Vegetative propagation can be accomplished from side-shoots, slips, stems and sections of tubers, bulbs or rhizomes.

A particle on a spring moves in simple harmonic motion along the x axis between turning points at x1 = 95 cm and x2 = 135 cm. (i
uranmaximum [27]

Answer:

(i) x = 115\,cm, (ii) x = 95\,cm, (iii) x = 95\,cm

Explanation:

(i) x_{1} and x_{2} represent the points where particle has a velocity of zero and spring reach maximum deformation, Given the absence of non-conservative force and by the Principle of Energy Conservation, the position where particle is at maximum speed is average of both extreme positions:

x = 115\,cm

(ii) Maximum accelerations is reached at x_{1} and x_{2}.

x = 95\,cm

(iii) Greatest net forces exerted on the particle are reached at  x_{1} and x_{2}.

x = 95\,cm
