A 30-mm-diameter copper rod is 1 m long with a yield strength of 70 MPa. Determine the axial force necessary to cause the diamet

er of the rod to reduce by 0.01 percent, assuming elastic deformation. Check that the elastic deformation assumption is valid by comparing the axial stress to the yield strength.

Explanation:

Given data:

d = 30 mm = 0.03 m

L = 1m

S_{y} = 70 Mpa

Δd = -0.0001d

Axial force = ?

validity of elastic deformation assumption.

Solution:

O'₂ = Δd/d = (-0.0001d)/d = -0.0001

For copper,

v = 0.326      E = 119×10³ Mpa

O'₁ = O'₂/v = (-0.0001)/0.326 = 306×10⁶

∵δ = F.L/E.A    and σ = F/A so,

σ = δ.E/L = O'₁ .E = (306×10⁻⁶).(119×10³) = 36.5 MPa

F = σ . A = (36.5 × 10⁻⁶) . (π/4 × (0.03)²) = 25800 KN

S_{y} = 70 MPa > σ = 36.5 MPa

∵ elastic deformation assumption is valid.

so the answer is

F = 25800 K N            and     S_{y} > σ

What is the relative size and composition of the universe, a galaxy, and a solar system?
slava [35]

The solar system is smaller than a galaxy. Galaxies are composed of solar systems. The solar system is composed of planets revolving around a star (such as our sun). To put into perspective, there are about hundreds of billions of stars in our galaxy (the milky way). On the other hand, billions of galaxies make up the universe.

The speed of light is constant which is 299 792 458 m / s. The time is taken for light to reach an object can be used to measure the distance between objects in space. This is done by multiplying the time by the speed of light.

Distance in space is so vast and therefore impractical to use the basic SI units of meters and kilometers we use here on earth. Therefore the use of astronomical units and light years is used. Light years is the distance that light can cover in a year in the vacuum of space, while astronomical units is the distance between solar systems.

Point charges q1 and q2 are separated by a distance of 60 cm along a horizontal axis. The magnitude of q1 is 3 times the magnitu
Alex777 [14]

d = distance between the two point charges = 60 cm = 0.60 m

r = distance of the location of point "a" where the electric field is zero from charge q_{1} between the two charges.

q_{1} = magnitude of charge on one charge

q_{2} = magnitude of charge on other charge

q_{1} = 3 q_{2}

E_{1} = Electric field by charge q_{1} at point "a"

E_{2} = Electric field by charge q_{2} at point "a"

Electric field by charge q_{1} at point "a" is given as

E_{1} = kq_{1} /r²

Electric field by charge q_{2} at point "a" is given as

E_{2} = kq_{2} /(d-r)²

For the electric field to be zero at point "a"

E_{2} = E_{1}

kq_{2} /(d-r)² = kq_{1} /r²

q_{2} /(d-r)² = 3q_{2} /r²

1/(0.60 - r)² = 3 /r²

r = 0.38 m

r = 38 cm

Why does your body feels like it is being pushed back when the car starts back up again

Any 5 points about importance of si system
grin007 [14]

Answer:

SI unit is an international system of measurements that are used universally in technical and scientific research to avoid the confusion with the units. Having a standard unit system is important because it helps the entire world to understand the measurements in one set of unit system. i hope this helps
