A 30-mm-diameter copper rod is 1 m long with a yield strength of 70 MPa. Determine the axial force necessary to cause the diamet

er of the rod to reduce by 0.01 percent, assuming elastic deformation. Check that the elastic deformation assumption is valid by comparing the axial stress to the yield strength.

Explanation:

Given data:

d = 30 mm = 0.03 m

L = 1m

S_{y} = 70 Mpa

Δd = -0.0001d

Axial force = ?

validity of elastic deformation assumption.

Solution:

O'₂ = Δd/d = (-0.0001d)/d = -0.0001

For copper,

v = 0.326      E = 119×10³ Mpa

O'₁ = O'₂/v = (-0.0001)/0.326 = 306×10⁶

∵δ = F.L/E.A    and σ = F/A so,

σ = δ.E/L = O'₁ .E = (306×10⁻⁶).(119×10³) = 36.5 MPa

F = σ . A = (36.5 × 10⁻⁶) . (π/4 × (0.03)²) = 25800 KN

S_{y} = 70 MPa > σ = 36.5 MPa

∵ elastic deformation assumption is valid.

so the answer is

F = 25800 K N            and     S_{y} > σ

Calculate the total energy of 2.0 kg object moving horizontally at 10 m/s 50 meters above the surface
mina [271]
We have:

Total Energy: KE + GPE
KE (Kinetic Energy) = \frac{1}{2} m*v^2
GPE (Gravitational Potential Energy) = m*g*h

Data:
m (mass) = 2.0 Kg
v (speed) = 10 m/s
h (height) = 50 m
Use: g (gravity) = 10 m/s²

Formula:

Total Energy: KE + GPE
TE =  \frac{1}{2} m*v^2 + m*g*h

Solving:
TE = \frac{1}{2} m*v^2 + m*g*h
TE = \frac{1}{2} *2.0*10^2 + 2.0*10*50
TE =  \frac{2.0*100}{2} + 1000
TE =  \frac{200}{2} + 1000
TE = 100 + 1000
\boxed{\boxed{TE = 1100\:Joule}}\end{array}}\qquad\quad\checkmark

How would radiation occur in space?
Marizza181 [45]

Answer:

Space radiation is made up of three kinds of radiation: particles trapped in the Earth's magnetic field; particles shot into space during solar flares (solar particle events); and galactic cosmic rays, which are high-energy protons and heavy ions from outside our solar system.

The information on a can of soda indicates that the can contains 355 mL. The mass of a full can of soda is 0.369 kg, while an em
Vilka [71]

Answer:

\rho=995.50\ kg.m^{-3}

\bar w=9765.887\ N.m^{-3}

s=0.9955

Explanation:

Given:

  • volume of liquid content in the can, v_l=0.355\ L=3.55\times 10^{-4}\ L
  • mass of filled can, m_f=0.369\ kg
  • weight of empty can, w_c=0.153\ N

<u>So, mass of the empty can:</u>

m_c=\frac{w_c}{g}

m_c=\frac{0.153}{9.81}

m_c=0.015596\ kg

<u>Hence the mass of liquid(soda):</u>

m_l=m_f-m_c

m_l=0.369-0.015596

m_l=0.3534\ kg

<u>Therefore the density of liquid soda:</u>

\rho=\frac{m_l}{v_l} (as density is given as mass per unit volume of the substance)

\rho=\frac{0.3534}{3.55\times 10^{-4}}

\rho=995.50\ kg.m^{-3}

<u>Specific weight of the liquid soda:</u>

\bar w=\frac{m_l.g}{v_l}=\rho.g

\bar w=995.5\times 9.81

\bar w=9765.887\ N.m^{-3}

Specific gravity is the density of the substance to the density of water:

s=\frac{\rho}{\rho_w}

where:

\rho_w= density of water

s=\frac{995.5}{1000}

s=0.9955
