A damped harmonic oscillator consists of a block (m = 2.00 kg), a spring (k = 10.0 N/m), and a damping force (F = −bv). Initiall

y, it oscillates with an amplitude of 25.0 cm; because of the damping, the amplitude falls to three-fourths of this initial value at the completion of four oscillations. We assume that the damping force does not affect the period of each oscillation. (a) What is the value of b? (b) Justify the assumption that "damping force does not affect the period of each oscillation".

Explanation:

Given that,

Mass of block = 2.00 kg

Spring constant = 10.0 N/m

Initial amplitude x_{i}= 25.0

Final amplitude x_{f}= 0.75 x_{i}

Number of oscillation = 4

(a). We need to calculate the time

Given formula,

t = nT

t=n2\pi\sqrt{\dfrac{m}{k}}

Put the value into the formula

t=4\times2\pi\sqrt{\dfrac{2.00}{10.0}}

t=11.23\ sec

We need to calculate the value of b

Using damping formula

x_{m}e^{\dfrac{-bt}{2m}}=0.75x_{i}

e^{\dfrac{-b\times11.23}{2\times2.00}}=0.75

e^{-2.81b}=0.75

-2.81 b=ln(0.75)

b=\dfrac{0.28}{2.81}

b=0.099\ kg/s

(b), The damping force equation is

m\dfrac{d^2x}{dt^2}+b\dfrac{dx}{dt}+kx=0

We know that,

The time period is

T=\dfrac{2\pi}{\sqrt{\dfrac{k}{m}+(\dfrac{b}{2m})^2}}

Therefore, time period is affected by damping force.

Hence, This is the required solution.

Question: Is a flame matter?<br> .<br> Claim: (Write a statement that answers the question)
Alenkinab [10]

Answer:

Matter is anything that has mass and occupies space. The flame itself is a mixture of gases (vaporized fuel, oxygen, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, water vapor, and many other things) and so is matter. <em><u>The light produced by the flame is energy, not matter.</u></em>

Clay Matthews, a linebacker for the Green Bay Packers, can reach a speed of 10.0 m/s. At the start of a play, Matthews runs down
MA_775_DIABLO [31]

Answer:

a)   D_ total = 18.54 m,   b)        v = 6.55 m / s

Explanation:

In this exercise we must find the displacement of the player.

a) Let's start with the initial displacement, d = 8 m at a 45º angle, use trigonometry to find the components

           sin 45 = y₁ / d

           cos 45 = x₁ / d

           y₁ = d sin 45

           x₁ = d sin 45

           y₁ = 8 sin 45 = 5,657 m

           x₁ = 8 cos 45 = 5,657 m

The second offset is d₂ = 12m at 90 of the 50 yard

            y₂ = 12 m

            x₂ = 0

total displacement

          y_total = y₁ + y₂

          y_total = 5,657 + 12

          y_total = 17,657 m

          x_total = x₁ + x₂

          x_total = 5,657 + 0

          x_total = 5,657 m

          D_total =   17.657 i^+ 5.657 j^  m

          D_total = Ra (17.657 2 + 5.657 2)

          D_ total = 18.54 m

b) the average speed is requested, which is the offset carried out in the time used

           v = Δx /Δt

the distance traveled using the pythagorean theorem is

         r = √ (d1² + d2²)

          r = √ (8² + 12²)

          r = 14.42 m

The time used for this shredding is

         t = t1 + t2

         t = 1 + 1.2

         t = 2.2 s

let's calculate the average speed

         v = 14.42 / 2.2

         v = 6.55 m / s

Optics of the eye: the closest object that a typical young person with normal vision can focus on clearly is closest to:______.
Natali [406]

The human eye is one of the most valuable sense organ. The closest object that a typical young person with normal vision can focus closest to is 25 cm

The lens in the eye forms the image on the retina. The image formed is real and inverted. The retina is a very delicate membrane containing numerous light sensitive cells.

This light sensitive cells gets activated when light falls on it and generates electric signals. These electric signals are sent to the brain via the optic nerves present in the eye. The brain finally processes these signals and thus we see the object clearly.

The ability of the lens of the eye to adjust its focal length accordingly is called the power of accommodation,

The minimum distance, at which the object can be seen clearly without any strain is called the least distance of distinct vision.

To see an object clearly without any strain is when we place it at about 25 cm from the eye.
