According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the longest home run ever measured was hit by Roy "Dizzy" Carlyle in a minor le

ague game. The ball traveled 188 m (618 ft) before landing on the ground outside the ballpark.
Part A
Assuming the ball's initial velocity was 44? above the horizontal and ignoring air resistance, what did the initial speed of the ball need to be to produce such a home run if the ball was hit at a point 0.9 m(3.0 ft) above ground level? Assume that the ground was perfectly flat.
Express your answer using two significant figures.
Part B
How far would the ball be above a fence 3.0 m (10 ft) high if the fence was 116 m (380 ft) from home plate?
Express your answer using two significant figures.

Answer:

Part A: 43 m/s

part B: 40 m  i don't know why it is 40 not 42

Explanation:

Part A

you have

range = 188m

since you have an angle which means parabolic graph like this

you will use the range special rule, which is equal to (v₀²sin(2θ))/g

188=v₀²sin(88)/(9.8)

you will find the answer

Part B

You will the formula Δy=v₀t-(1/2)(g)(t²)

such that v₀ is in y direction which means  it will be 43sin(44) in this equation and the time can be got using the special formula  t=v₀ in y direction /g

then you will plug the time in the quadratic equation

Finally after you get the answer you will subtract 3 from it, but you will find it 42 not 40 , which is the right answer

The depth of the Pacific Ocean in the Mariana Trench is 36,198 ft. What is the gauge pressure at this depth
FinnZ [79.3K]

Answer:

the pressure at the depth is 1.08 × 10^{8} Pa

Explanation:

The pressure at the depth is given by,

P = h \rho g

Where, P = pressure at the depth

h = depth of the Pacific Ocean in the Mariana Trench = 36,198 ft = 11033.15 meter

\rho = density of water = 1000 \frac{kg}{m^{3} }

g = acceleration due to gravity ≈ 9.8 \frac{m}{s^{2} }

P = 11033.15 × 9.8 × 1000

P = 1.08 × 10^{8} Pa

Thus, the pressure at the depth is 1.08 × 10^{8} Pa

When a voltage difference is applied to a piece of metal wire, a 5.0 mA current flows through it. If this metal wire is now repl
zheka24 [161]

Answer:

I = 21.13 mA ≈ 21 mA

Explanation:

If

I₁ = 5 mA

L₁ = L₂ = L

V₁ = V₂ = V

ρ₁ = 1.68*10⁻⁸ Ohm-m

ρ₂ = 1.59*10⁻⁸ Ohm-m

D₁ = D

D₂ = 2D

S₁ = 0.25*π*D²

S₂ = 0.25*π*(2*D)² = π*D²

If we apply the equation

R = ρ*L / S

where (using Ohm's Law):

R = V / I

we have

V / I = ρ*L / S

If V and L are the same

V / L =  ρ*I / S

then

(V / L)₁ = (V / L)₂  ⇒     ρ₁*I₁ / S₁ = ρ₂*I₂ / S₂

If

S₁ = 0.25*π*D²   and

S₂ = 0.25*π*(2*D)² = π*D²

we have

ρ₁*I₁ / (0.25*π*D²) = ρ₂*I₂ / (π*D²)

⇒    I₂ = 4*ρ₁*I₁ / ρ₂

⇒     I₂ = 4*1.68*10⁻⁸ Ohm-m*5 mA / 1.59*10⁻⁸ Ohm-m

⇒     I₂ = 21.13 mA
