Given data:

mass of the box (m) = 12 kg,

                            W = m.g

                                = 12 kg × 9.8 m/s²

                                 = 117.6 N

coefficient of static friction (μ) = 0.42,

determine the minimum force needed to set the box in motion(F) = ?

Important Point: The minimum force required to move a body is proportional to the weight of the body. Please find the attached figure.

                              F ∝ W

                              F = μ. W Newtons

                              μ = It is the constant proportionality also known as coefficient of static friction.

                  The normal reaction of the body R = W

                  Therefore,

                               F = μ . R Newtons

                   Where,

                              F = Minimum force required to move a body, N

                               F = 0.42 × 117.6

                                  = 49.39 N

<em>The minimum force is needed to move a body on flat floor is 49 N</em>

As we know that friction force on box is given by

F_s = \mu_s N

here we know that

N = mg

here we have

m = 12 kg

\mu_s = 0.42

so now we have

N = 12(9.8) = 117.6 N

now we will have

F_s = 0.42(12)(9.8)

F_s = 49.4 N

so it required minimum 49 N(approx) force to move the block

A wheel moves in the xy plane in such a way that the location of its center is given by the equations xo = 12t3 and yo = R = 2,
Stella [2.4K]

Answer:

the velocity of the point P located on the horizontal diameter of the wheel at t = 1.4 s  is   P =  104.04 \hat{i} -314.432 \hat{j}

Explanation:

The free-body  diagram below shows the interpretation of the question; from the diagram , the wheel that is rolling in a clockwise directio will have two velocities at point P;

  • the peripheral velocity that is directed downward (-V_y) along the y-axis
  • the linear velocity (V_x) that is directed along the x-axis

Now;

V_x = \frac{d}{dt}(12t^3+2) = 36 t^2

V_x = 36(1.7)^2\\\\V_x = 104.04\ ft/s

Also,

-V_y = R* \omega

where \omega(angular velocity) = \frac{d\theta}{dt} = \frac{d}{dt}(8t^4)

-V_y = 2*32t^3)\\\\\\-V_y = 2*32(1.7^3)\\\\-V_y = 314.432 \ ft/s

∴ the velocity of the point P located on the horizontal diameter of the wheel at t = 1.4 s  is   P =  104.04 \hat{i} -314.432 \hat{j}

If a car's speed triples, how does the momentum and kinetic energy of the
Harrizon [31]

Answer: When the car speed triples, momentum also triples but Kinetic energy increases 9 times or by 9 fold.

Explanation:

The momentum of a car (an object) is

p= mv

where

m is =the mass of the object( in this case car)

v is its= velocity

While the kinetic energy is is given by the formulae

K=1/2mv²

To determine how momentum and kinetic energy of the  car changes when the speed of the object triples, We have that the new velocity,

v¹= 3v

So that  the momentum  change becomes

p¹=mv¹=m (3v)= 3mv

mv=p

therefore p¹= 3p

we can see that the momentum also triples.

And the kinetic energy change  becomes

K¹=1/2m(v¹)²= 1/2m (3v)²

= 1/2m9v²= 1/2 x m x 9 x v²=9 x1/2mv²

1/2mv²=K

K¹= Kinetic energy = 9k

but Kinetic energy increases 9 times
