A string has 8 N of tension. When it is vibrated at 2 Hz, a standing wave forms with a wavelength of 4 cm and an amplitude of 1

cm. a bead of negligible mass is glued to the middle of the string.
If the bead is at a node, what total distance will it move in 1 second?

Total distance moved by bead is 1.952 cm.

Explanation:

Let first consider all data that are given in question.

1.    F = 8 N                       ...force acting on string

2.   f  = 2 Hz                     ...frequency of system

3.   β = 4 cm = 0.04 m    ...wavelength of wave formed due to vibration

4.   A =  1 cm  = 0.01 m     ...Amplitude of vibration

Under certain conditions, waves can bounce back and forth through a particular region, effectively becoming stationary. These are called standing waves.

Here,it is due to vibration induced in spring due to tension induced in string

Standing wave equation is given by

y=(x,t)= 2A \times sin Kx \times cos(w t)     ...(1)

Let first find, value of K, x, w, t

K=  \frac{2*\pi}{\beta }                   ....(2)

      where β is wavelength in meters

                  K is wave number

K=  \frac{2*\pi}{0.01 }

K=  628.31  \    m^{-1}

now, let us find value of w

w = 2 \times \pi \times f          ....(3)

       where f is frequency in hertz

w = 2 \times \pi \times 2

w = 4 \times \pi

w= 12.5664   rad

now, let us find value of v that is wave speed

v= f \times \beta

v= 2 \times 0.04 \\ v= 0.08 \frac{m}{s}

y=(x,t)= 2A \times sin Kx \times cos(w t)

Notice that some x-positions of the resultant wave are always zero no matter what the phase relationship is.  These positions are called nodes.

Finding the positions where the sine function equals zero provides the positions of the nodes.

sin (K \times x) = 0 \\  K \times x  = \pi , 2\pi ,3\pi ,...

In our case,

K \times x= \pi       and

x= \frac{\beta }{2}   \\  x= \frac{0.04}{2} \\x= 0.02

y=(0.02,1)= 2A \times sin Kx \times cos(w t)

y=(0.02,1)= 2\times0.01 \times sin \pi \times cos(12.5664 \times 1)

y=(0.02,1)= 2\times0.01 \times (-1) \times 0.9761

y=(0.02,1)=  0.01952  m  = 1.952 cm

Finally, when bead is at middle of the string, total distance after stretch covered  is 1.952 cm.

vichka [17]

As the ball is moving in air as well as we have to neglect the friction force on it

So we can say that ball is having only one force on it that is gravitational force

So the force on the ball must have to be represented by gravitational force and that must be vertically downwards

So the correct FBD will contain only one force and that force must be vertically downwards

So here correct answer must be

<em>Diagram A shows a box with a downward arrow. </em>

Mirrors produce images by doing which of the following to light?
Gemiola [76]

Answer: C

Reflection

Explanation: Light travels in a straight line. Reflection is one of the properties of light. And this is the property in which mirror make use of. The ability of light to bounce back. It's this bouncing back characteristics of light ray that eventually produce the image of an object by the mirror.

If the light ray is absorbed, no image will be produced.

Objects change motion due to forces. When they become unbalanced, their motion changes, while balanced forces cause constant mot
Neko [114]

Answer:

Balanced forces: When a number of forces acting on a body do not cause any change in its state of rest or of uniform motion along a straight line then the forces are said to be balanced forces. In other words, a body is said to be underbalanced forced when the resulting force acting on the body is zero.

The balanced forces:

⋅ Cannot set any stationary body into motion.

⋅ May change the shape and size of soft objects.

⋅ Cannot change the speed/velocity of a moving body.

Unbalanced forces:

When the resultant of all the forces acting on a body is not zero, then forces are called unbalanced forces.

Example:

⋅ Game of tug of war: When the forces exerted by both the teams are equal, then the rope does not move. But, if the force applied by team A is greater than team B, then the rope, as well as members of the weaker team, i.e., B, will be pulled towards A. The unbalanced force can (a) Set a stationary body in motion.

⋅ Set a moving body at rest.

⋅ Change the direction of motion.
