A boy throws a baseball onto a roof and it rolls back down and off the roof with a speed of 3.75 m/s. If the roof is pitched at

35 degrees below the horizon and the roof edge is 2.50 meters above the ground, find: (a) the time the baseball spends in the air, and (b) the horizontal distance from the roof edge to the point where the baseball lands on the ground.

Answer:

a) t = 0.528 s

b) D = 1.62 m

Explanation:

given,

speed of the baseball = 3.75 m/s

angle made with the horizontal = 35°

height of the roof edge = 2.5 m

using equation of motion

s = ut +\dfrac{1}{2}gt^2

2.5 = vsin\theta \ t +\dfrac{1}{2}gt^2

2.5 = 3.75\ sin35^0 \ t +\dfrac{1}{2}\times 9.8 t^2

4.9 t² + 2.15 t - 2.5 = 0

on solving the above equation

t = 0.528 s

b) D = v cos θ × t

D = 3.75 × cos 35° ×0.528

D = 1.62 m

A 75-g bullet is fired from a rifle having a barrel 0.540 m long. choose the origin to be at the location where the bullet begin
lyudmila [28]
Part a) The work done by the gas on the bullet is the integral of the force in dx, where x is the distance covered by the bullet inside the barrel with respect to the origin:
W= \int\limits^{0.540m}_{0} {F} \, dx =  \int\limits^{0.540m}_{0} {(16000+10000x-26000x^2)} \, dx =
=16000x+10000  \frac{x^2}{2} - 26000  \frac{x^3}{3}
By substituting the length of the barrel, L=0.540 m, we find the total work done by the gas on the bullet:
W=16000(0.540m)+10000  \frac{(0.540m)^2}{2} - 26000  \frac{(0.540m)^3}{3}  =
=8733 J=8.73 kJ

part b) The resolution of the problem is the same, we just have to use the new length of the barrel (L=0.95 m) inside the final formula, and we find the new value of the work:
W=16000(0.95m)+10000  \frac{(0.95m)^2}{2} - 26000  \frac{(0.95m)^3}{3}  =
=12280 J=12.28 kJ

Sources of error in a diverging lens experiment
Snezhnost [94]

Answer:

Lens and the virtual image was the image distance. Error was made when measuring the distances and determining values that were reasonable for focal length, so this error was accounted for when calculating the focal length by adding or subtracting uncertainties from the values.Plane mirrors, convex mirrors, and diverging lenses can never produce a real image. A concave mirror and a converging lens will only produce a real image if the object is located beyond the focal point (i.e., more than one focal length away). 5.

A box at rest has the shape of a cube 3.5 m on a side. This box is loaded onto the flat floor of a spaceship and the spaceship t
guapka [62]

Answer:

V_o=25.725\ m^3

Explanation:

Given:

sides of the cube, a=3.5\ m

speed of the cube with respect to the observer, v=0.8c

Since the relative velocity of the object is relativistic, so there will be a length contraction according to the observer:

a_o=a\div\frac{1}{\sqrt{1-\frac{v^2}{c^2} } }

where:

a_o= observed length of the side along the direction of velocity

a_o=3.5\div\frac{1}{\sqrt{1-\frac{(0.8c)^2}{c^2} } }

a_o=2.1\ m is the observed length of the cube edge only in the direction of the velocity due to relativistic effect of length contraction.

So the observed volume will be:

V_o=a\times a\times a_o

V_o=3.5\times 3.5\times 2.1

V_o=25.725\ m^3
