How does the atomic mass of an element contain a mixture of isotopes and explains which is the most abundant of isotopes?
Alexxandr [17]
The relative abundances of the isotopes of an element is determined using mass spectrometry. A mass spectrometry isotope distribution graph is needed as shown in the picture. This is for the isotopes of Zirconium. The x-axis is the individual mass, while the y-axis is the relative abundance. For this example, the atomic weight of Zirconium is calculated as:

Atomic weight = 90 amu(50%) + 91 amu(11%) + 92 amu(18%) + 94 amu(19%) + 96 amu(2%) = 91.35 amu

Consider the total ionic equation below.
Rzqust [24]

Answer:

The correct answer is CrO^{2-} _{4} and Ba^{2+}

Explanation:

A "spectator ion" is an ion that exists as a reagent and as a product in a chemical reaction. This ion has the particularity of not affecting the equilibrium.

In this case, the two components that do not see their charges modified on both sides of the reaction are CrO^{2-} _{4} and Ba^{2+}
