A quilt is a usually multilayered textile, made to warm the body. Air is trapped between the layers of the fabric of the quilt. This is the reason it is a better insulator compared to a woolen blanket of the same thickness.
As air is the poor conductor of heat, therefore, body heat is trapped inside the quilt and thus it more effective for maintaining the body heat
