You wish to lift a 12,000 lb stone by a vertical distance of 15 ft. Unfortunately, you can only generate a maximum pushing force

of 2,000 lb.
What is the amount of work you must input
in order to move the stone?

What is the actual mechanical advantage (AMA) required by a machine to complete the work

Answer:

A) 180000 lbft

B) 6

C) 90 ft

Explanation:

work to be imputed is

Wi = F x d

= 12,000 lb x 15 ft

= 180000 lbft of work

Work you can produce is

Wa = F x d

= 2000 lb x 15 ft = 30000 lbft

Mechanical advantage that will be needed = Wi/Wa = 180000/30000

= 6

Lenght of ramp = 6 x 15 ft = 90 ft

The correct statement about the lift and drag on an object is:_______
Lisa [10]

Answer:

(a). the resultant force in the direction of the freestream velocity is termed the drag and the resultant force normal to the freestream velocity is termed the lift

Explanation:

When a fluid flows around the surface of an object, it exerts a force on it. This force has two components, namely lift and drag.

The component of this force that is perpendicular (normal) to the freestream velocity is known as lift, while the component of this force that is parallel or in the direction of the fluid freestream flow is known as drag.

Lift is as a result of pressure differences, while drag results from forces due to pressure distributions over the object surface, and forces due to skin friction or viscous force.

Thus, drag results from the combination of pressure and viscous forces while lift results only from the pressure differences (not pressure forces as was used in option D).

The only correct option left is "A"

(a). the resultant force in the direction of the freestream velocity is termed the drag and the resultant force normal to the freestream velocity is termed the lift

A cylindrical specimen of a hypothetical metal alloy is stressed in compression. If its original and final diameters are 16.403
Dmitry [639]

Answer:

A certain vehicle loses 3.5% of its value each year. If the vehicle has an initial value of $11,168, construct a model that represents the value of the vehicle after a certain number of years. Use your model to compute the value of the vehicle at the end of 6 years.
