Are the plugs in your home connected in series or in parallel? and why?
yuradex [85]

Parallel. There are several reasons. Some are more technical, but the simplest reason is: If they were in series and somebody turned off the TV, all the lights in the house would go out, along with the air conditioner and the toaster.

In series, nothing can be running unless EVERYTHING is running. If one thing is unplugged or turned off, then EVERYTHING goes off.

If the house was wired in series, then every outlet would need something plugged into it AND turned on, otherwise you couldn't have a light in your bedroom. Pretty inconvenient !

If you tethered a space station to the earth by a long cable, you could get to space in an elevator that rides up the cable much
Sholpan [36]

Answer:

l=12916.5m

Explanation:

Distance d=3600km

Since

Density of steel \rho=7900kg/m^3

Stress of steel \mu= 1*10^9

Generally the equation for Stress on Cable is mathematically given by

S=\frac{F}{A}

S=\frac{\rho Alg}{A}

Therefore

l=\frac{s}{\rhog}

l=\frac{ 1*10^9}{7900kg/m^3*9.8}

l=12916.5m

Alan leaves Los Angeles at 8:00 a.m. to drive to San Francisco, 400 mi away. He travels at a steady 46.0 mph . Beth leaves Los A
elena-14-01-66 [18.8K]

Answer:

25 min, 48 sec

Explanation:

Alan:

t = d/v

  = 400 mi / 46 mph = 8.70 hr

So it took Alan 8.70 hrs; from 8 am, that's 4:42 pm that he arrives.

t = d/v

  = 400 mi / 55 mph = 7.27 hr

So it took Beth 7.27 hrs; from 9 am, that's 4:16:12 that she arrives.

4:42 - 4:16:12 = 25.8 minutes = 25 minutes, 48 sec
