Answer:

In 1889, Ernest Rutherford recognized and named two modes of radioactive decay, showing the occurrence of both processes in a decaying sample of natural uranium and its daughters. Rutherford named these types of radiation based on their penetrating power: heavier alpha and lighter beta radiation. Gamma rays, a third type of radiation, were discovered by P. Villard in 1900 but weren't recognized as electromagnetic radiation until 1914. Since gamma radiation is only the discharge of a high-energy photon from an over-excited nucleus, it does not change the identity of the atom from which it originates and therefore will not be discussed in depth here.

Because nuclear reactions involve the breaking of very powerful intra nuclear bonds, massive amounts of energy can be released. At such high energy levels, the matter can be converted directly to energy according to Einstein's famous Mass-Energy relationship E = mc2. The sum of mass and energy are conserved in nuclear decay. The free energy of any spontaneous reaction must be negative according to thermodynamics (ΔG < 0), and ΔG is essentially equal to the energy change ΔE of nuclear reactions because ΔE is so massive.

Does adding 1 mol of NaCl to 1 kg of water lower the vapor pressure of water to the same extent, a lesser extent, or a greater e
igor_vitrenko [27]

Answer:

Adding 1 mol of NaCl to 1 kg of water lower the vapor pressure of water <em><u>to the same extent</u></em>  by adding 1 mol of C_06H_{12}O_6 to 1 kg of water.

Explanation:

1) Moles of NaCl ,n_1=1 mol

Mass of water = m= 1 kg = 1000 g

Moles of water = n_2=\frac{1000 g}{18 g/mol}=55.55 mol

Vapor pressure of the solution = p

Vapor pressure of the pure solvent that is water = p_o=17.5 Torr

Mole fraction of solute(NaCl)= \chi_1=\frac{n_1}{n_1+n_2}

\frac{p_o-p}{p_o}=\frac{n_1}{n_1+n_2}

\frac{17.5 Torr-p}{17.5 Torr}=\frac{1 mol}{1 mol+55.55 mol}

p=17.19 Torr

The vapor pressure for the NaCl solution at 17.19 Torr.

2) Moles of sucrose ,n_1=1mol

Mass of water = m  = 1 kg = 1000 g

Moles of water = n_2=\frac{1000 g}{18 g/mol}=55.55 mol

Vapor pressure of the solution = p'

Vapor pressure of the pure solvent that is water = p_o=17.5 Torr

Mole fraction of solute ( glucose)= \chi_1=\frac{n_1}{n_1+n_2}

\frac{p_o-p}{p_o}=\frac{n_1}{n_1+n_2}

\frac{17.5 Torr-p}{17.5 Torr}=\frac{1 mol}{1 mol+55.55 mol}

p'=17.19 Torr

The vapor pressure for the glucose solution at 17.19 Torr.

p = p' = 17.19 Torr

Adding 1 mol of NaCl to 1 kg of water lower the vapor pressure of water to the same extent  by adding 1 mol of C_06H_{12}O_6 to 1 kg of water.

Which electromagnetic radiation on the electromagnetic spectrum can be detected by the human eye?
qaws [65]

Answer:

D. Visible Light

Explanation:

D is the right answer because visible light is perceived by humans as color and the rest aren't visible at all. For example, if you broke a bone and have to have an X-ray done, you can't see the x-rays. When you are heating something in the microwave, you can't see the waves. And when you are listening to the radio in the car, you also can't see the waves.

Consider the following reaction where Kc = 34.5 at 1150 K:2SO2(g) + O2(g) 2SO3(g)A reaction mixture was found to contain 4.77×10
sukhopar [10]

Answer:

Explanation:

[ so₃] = 4.37 x 10⁻²

[so₂] = 4.77 x 10⁻²

[ o₂] = 4.55 x 10⁻²

Qc = (4.37)²x10⁻⁴ /(4.77)².(4.55) x 10⁻⁶ =18.44

Qc is less than Kc hence in order to reach equilibrium more of so₃ will be produced . Statement 1 is true.

Kc is always constant . Statement 2 is false.

Statement 3 is false because statement 1 is true.

Qc Is smaller than Kc . So statement 4 is false.

The reaction is not in equilibrium. Statement 5 is false.
