Answer:

Due to the difference in the relative atomic masses and therefore, the molecular masses of Zn and Pb, one mole of Zn is about 3.2 times lighter than one mole of Pb

Explanation:

From the periodic table, we have;

The atomic number of zinc, Zn = 30

The atomic mass of zinc, Zn = 65.38 amu

The molar mass of zinc, Zn = 65.38 g/mol

The atomic number of lead, Pb = 82

The atomic mass of lead, Pb = 207.2 amu

The molar mass of lead, Pb = 207.2 g/mol

Therefore, whereby equal number of moles of Zn is lost and Pb is gained, we have;

Mass of 1 mole of Zn = 65.38 grams

Therefore, 1 gram of Zn = 1/65.38 moles = 0.0153 moles

0.12 grams of Zn = 0.12×0.0153 = 0.00184 moles of Zn

Given that equal number of moles of Zn and Pb are involved in the reaction, the number of moles of Pb gained = 0.00184 moles

The mass of Pb gained = Number of moles of Pb gained × Molar mass of Pb

The mass of Pb gained = 0.00184 × 207.2 = 0.38 g ≈ 0.4 g.

Amount of Pb gained = 0.43 g ≈ 0.4 g

Answer:

KBr + I- ---------> KI + Br-

Explanation:

Single Displacement reaction is a chemical Reaction in which one element in the salt is replaced with another element

for example,

A-B + C -------> A-C + B

electropositive replaces only electropositive elements from compound. same is true for electronegative element

in first reaction I being electro negative replaces Br from KBr so this is a single displacement reaction

What is the ratio of lactic acid (Ka = 1.37x^10-4) to lactate in a solution with pH =4.29
hram777 [196]

Henderson–Hasselbalch equation is given as,

                                         pH  =  pKa  +  log [A⁻] / [HA]   -------- (1)

Solution:

Convert Ka into pKa,

                                         pKa  =  -log Ka

                                         pKa  =  -log 1.37 × 10⁻⁴

                                         pKa  =  3.863

Putting value of pKa and pH in eq.1,

                                         4.29  =  3.863 + log [lactate] / [lactic acid]

Or,

                   log [lactate] / [lactic acid]  =  4.29 - 3.863

                   log [lactate] / [lactic acid]  =  0.427

Taking Anti log,

                             [lactate] / [lactic acid]  =  2.673

Result:

           2.673 M lactate salt when mixed with 1 M Lactic acid produces a buffer of pH = 4.29.

Calculate the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of a 32g sample of water from 8°C to 22°C.
qwelly [4]

Answer:

The amount of heat required to raise the temperature of a 32g sample of water from 8°C to 22°C is 1,874.432 J

Explanation:

Calorimetry is the measurement and calculation of the amounts of heat exchanged by a body or a system.

Sensible heat is the amount of heat that a body absorbs or releases without any changes in its physical state (phase change).

Between heat and temperature there is a direct proportional relationship. The constant of proportionality depends on the substance that constitutes the body and its mass, and is the product of the specific heat and the mass of the body. So, the equation that allows to calculate heat exchanges is:

Q = c * m * ΔT

where Q is the heat exchanged by a body of mass m, constituted by a substance of specific heat c and where ΔT is the variation in temperature.

In this case:

  • c= 4.184 \frac{J}{g*C}
  • m= 32 g
  • ΔT= Tfinal - Tinitial= 22°C - 8°C= 14°C

Replacing:

Q= 32 g* 4.184 \frac{J}{g*C} *14 °C

Solving:

Q= 1,874.432 J

The amount of heat required to raise the temperature of a 32g sample of water from 8°C to 22°C is 1,874.432 J

Conversion factors are useful in solving problems in which a given measurement must be expressed in
spin [16.1K]

Conversion factors are useful in solving problems in which a given measurement must be expressed in some other units of measure.

Conversion factors
are helpful in solving issues where one unit of measurement needs to be expressed in another. In general, a measurement's numerical value changes when it is multiplied by a conversion factor, while the quantity being measured's real size stays the same.
A conversion factor is a number that is used to multiply or divide one set of units into another. If a conversion is required, it must be done using the correct conversion factor to get an identical value. For instance, 12 inches equals one foot when converting between inches and feet.
