The question is incomplete. The complete question is :

A mass is attached to the end of a spring and set into oscillation on a horizontal frictionless surface by releasing it from a compressed position. The record of time is started when the oscillating mass first passes through the equilibrium position, and the position of the mass at any time is described by x = (4.7 cm)sin[(7.9 rad/s)πt].

Determine the following:

(a) frequency of the motion

(b) period of the motion

(c) amplitude of the motion

(d) first time after t = 0  that the object reaches the position x = 2.6 cm

Solution :

Given equation : x = (4.7 cm)sin[(7.9 rad/s)πt].

Comparing it with the general equation of simple harmonic motion,

 x = A sin (ωt + Φ)

  A = 4.7 cm

  ω = 7.9 π

a). Therefore, frequency, $f=\frac{\omega}{2 \pi}$

                                             $=\frac{7.9 \pi}{2 \pi}$

                                             = 3.95 Hz

b). The period, $T=\frac{1}{f}$

                        $T=\frac{1}{3.95}

                            = 0.253 seconds

c). Amplitude is A = 4.7 cm

d). We have,

    x = A sin (ωt + Φ)

    $x_t=4.7 \sin (7.9 \pi t)$

    $2.6 = 4.7 \sin (7.9 \pi t)$

     $\sin (7.9 \pi t) = \frac{26}{47}$

     $7.9 \pi t = \sin^{-1}\left(\frac{26}{47}\right)$

          Hence, t = 0.0236 seconds.

Force F = (-6.0 N)ihat + (2.0 N) jhatacts on a particle with position vector r =(4.0 m) ihat+ (4.0 m) jhat.
finlep [7]

Answer:

\tau=(-32k)\ N-m

\theta=116.55^{\circ}

Explanation:

Given that.

Force acting on the particle, F=(-6i + 2.0j)\ N

Position of the particle, r=(4i+4j)\ m

To find,

(a) Torque on the particle about the origin.

(b) The angle between the directions of r and F

Solution,

(a) Torque acting on the particle is a scalar quantity. It is given by the cross product of force and position. It is given by :

\tau=F\times r

\tau=(-6i + 2.0j)\times (4i+4j)

\tau=\begin{pmatrix}0&0&-32\end{pmatrix}

\tau=(-32k)\ N-m

So, the torque on the particle about the origin is (32 N-m).

(b) Magnitude of r, |r|=\sqrt{4^2+4^2}=5.65\ m

Magnitude of F, |F|=\sqrt{(-6)^2+2^2}=6.324\ m

Using dot product formula,

F{\circ}\ r=|F|.|r|\ cos\theta

cos\theta=\dfrac{F{\circ} r}{|F|.|r|}

cos\theta=\dfrac{-24+8}{6.324\times 5.65}

\theta=116.55^{\circ}

Therefore, this is the required solution.

Answer:

Impedance, Z = 107 ohms

Explanation:

It is given that,

Resistance, R = 100 ohms

Inductance, L=800\ mH=800\times 10^{-3}\ H=0.8\ H

Capacitance, C=10\ \mu F=10\times 10^{-6}\ F=10^{-5}\ F

Frequency, f = 60 Hz

Voltage, V = 120 V

The impedance of the circuit is given by :

Z=\sqrt{R^2+(X_C-X_L)^2}...........(1)

Where

X_C is the capacitive reactance, X_C=\dfrac{1}{2\pi fC}

X_C=\dfrac{1}{2\pi \times 60\times 10^{-5}}=265.65\ \Omega

X_L is the inductive reactance, X_L={2\pi fL}

X_L={2\pi \times 60\times 0.8}=301.59\ \Omega

So, equation (1) becomes :

Z=\sqrt{(100)^2+(265.65-301.59)^2}

Z = 106.26 ohms

or

Z = 107 ohms

So, the impedance of the circuit is 107 ohms. Hence, this is the required solution.
