A 480 g peregrine falcon high in the sky spies a 240 g pigeon some distance below. The falcon slows to a near stop, then goes in

to a dive--called a stoop--and picks up speed as she falls. The falcon reaches a vertical speed of 45 m/s before striking the pigeon, which we can assume is stationary. The falcon strikes the pigeon and grabs it in her talons. The collision between the birds lasts 0.015 s.
Required:
a. What is the final speed of the falcon and pigeon?
b. What is the average force on the pigeon during the impact?

Answer:

Explanation:

Conservation of momentum during the collision

0.480(45) + 0.240(0) = (0.480 + 0.240)v

v = 30 m/s

An impulse results in a change of momentum

FΔt = mΔv

F = 0.240(30 - 0) / 0.015 = 480 N

or

F = 0.480(45 - 30) / 0.015 = 480 N

A force of 100. newtons is used to move an object a distance of 15 meters with a power of 25 watts. Find the time it takes to do
Flauer [41]
<h3>It takes 60 seconds to do the work</h3>

<em><u>Solution:</u></em>

Given that,

Force = 100 newtons

Distance = 15 meters

Power = 25 watts

To find: time it takes to do the work

<em><u>Find the work done:</u></em>

work = force \times displacement\\\\work = 100\ newtons \times 15\ meters\\\\work = 1500\ joule

<em><u>Find the time taken</u></em>

power = \frac{work}{time}\\\\25\ watts = \frac{1500\ joule}{time}\\\\time = \frac{1500\ joule}{25\ watt}\\\\time = 60\ second

Thus it takes 60 seconds to do the work

Why was miasma theory replaced?
GaryK [48]
In the mid of the 19th century the miasma theory was replaced by the germ theory of diseases (Maia 2013) The Greek physician Hippocrates (c.460- 377 B.C.E) believed that bad air could be the cause of any pestilences, the fatal epidemic.

Hope that helps!

A body moves in a straight line. At time, it's acceleration is given by a = 12t + 1. When t =0, the velocity of the body v is 2
madreJ [45]

Answer:

v = 6t² + t + 2, s = 2t³ + ½ t² + 2t

59 m/s, 64.5 m

Explanation:

a = 12t + 1

v = ∫ a dt

v = 6t² + t + C

At t = 0, v = 2.

2 = 6(0)² + (0) + C

2 = C

Therefore, v = 6t² + t + 2.

s = ∫ v dt

s = 2t³ + ½ t² + 2t + C

At t = 0, s = 0.

0 = 2(0)³ + ½ (0)² + 2(0) + C

0 = C

Therefore, s = 2t³ + ½ t² + 2t.

At t = 3:

v = 6(3)² + (3) + 2 = 59

s = 2(3)³ + ½ (3)² + 2(3) = 64.5
