A) Charge q1 = +5.60 nC is on the x-axis at x = 0 and an unknown charge q2 is on the x-axis at x = -4.00 cm. The total electric

force that q1 and q2 exert on a third charge q3 = +2.00 nC on the x -axis at x = 4.00 cm is in the +x-direction and has magnitude 49.0 μN. Find the x-component of the force that q1 exerts on q3.
b) Find the x-component of the force that q2 exerts on q3.

Answer:

a) F₃₁ = 63.0 μN

b) F₃₂ = - 14.0 μN

c) q₂ = - 5.0 nC

Explanation:

a)

  • Assuming that the three charges can be taken as point charges, the forces between them must obey Coulomb's Law, and can be found independent each other, applying the superposition principle.
  • So, we can find the force that q₁ exerts along the x-axis on q₃, as follows:

       F_{31} =\frac{k*q_{1}*q_{3} }{r_{13}^{2}} = \frac{9e9Nm2/C2*5.6e-9C*2.0e-9C}{(0.04m)^{2}} = 63.0 \mu N (1)

b)

  • Since total force exerted by q₁ and q₂ on q₃ is 49.0 μN, we can find the force exerted only by q₂ (which is along the x-axis only too) just by difference, as follows:

      F_{32} = F_{3} - F_{31} = 49.0\mu N - 63.0\mu N = -14.0 \mu N (2)

c)

  • Finally, in order to find the value of q₂, as we know the value and sign of F₃₂, we can apply again the Coulomb's Law, solving for q₂, as follows:

      q_{2} = \frac{F_{32} * r_{23}^{2} }{k*q_{3}} = \frac{(-14\mu N)*(0.08m)^{2}}{9e9Nm2/C2* 2 nC} = - 5 nC (3)

What is the most effective way to protect dry lands from desertification
Sonja [21]

Answer: Planting a tree belt.

Explanation:

The most effective method by which the desertification of the soil can be controlled is by planting more and more trees.

The process of desertification occurs when there is a loss of vegetation, water bodies and animals  from a particular area. Loss of trees makes the area look like desert.

So, planting trees along with some irrigation will help to cope with problem.

In getting ready to slam-dunk the ball, a basketball player starts from rest and sprints to a speed of 5.45 m/s in 3.02 s. Assum
vova2212 [387]

Recall that average velocity <em>v</em> is given by

<em>v</em> = ∆<em>x</em>/∆<em>t</em>

where ∆<em>x</em> is displacement and ∆<em>t</em> is time.

Under constant acceleration, average velocity is also equal to the average of the initial and final velocities,

<em>v</em> = (<em>v</em>₂ + <em>v</em>₁)/2

The player starts at rest, so <em>v</em>₁ = 0, and speeds up to <em>v</em>₂ = 5.45 m/s in a matter of ∆<em>t</em> = 3.02 s. So

∆<em>x</em> = (<em>v</em>₂ + <em>v</em>₁) ∆<em>t</em> / 2

∆<em>x</em> = (5.45 m/s) * (3.02 s) / 2

∆<em>x</em> ≈ 8.23 m

you cover 10 meters in a time of 1 second .Is your speed the same if you cover 20 meters in 2 seconds?
IrinaVladis [17]

Definition:
Speed = (distance covered) / (time to cover the distance).

Speed in the first example = (10 meters) / (1 second) = 10 m/s .

Speed in the second example = (20 meters) / (2 seconds) = 10 m/s.

Apparently, it is.  This little exercise demonstrates it.
