Using the words cohesive and adhesive, explain why water forms a meniscus?

Adhesion is responsible for a meniscus and this has to do in part with water's fairly high surface tension. Water molecules are attracted to the molecules in the wall of the glass beaker. And since water molecules like to stick together, when the molecules touching the glass cling to it, other water molecules cling to the molecules touching the glass, forming the meniscus. They'll travel up the glass as far as water's cohesive forces will allow them, until gravity prevents them from going further. Cohesion is an intermolecular attraction between like molecules (other water molecules in this case).

Describe some acidic oxides that can be prepared by thermal decomposition of nitrates and carbonates
azamat

When calcium carbonate is heated, it breaks down to form calcium oxide and carbon dioxide.

Thermal decomposition is the process in which heat is required.

It is also known as thermolysis.

It is processed in which a compound breaks into two or more products when the heat is supplied.

This reaction is used for the production of oxygen.

This reaction is also used for production of acidic as well as basic oxides.

CaCO3 on thermal decomposition gives:

CaCO3→CaO+CO2

CaO→ Basic oxide.

CO2→ Acidic oxide.

White phosphorus (P4) is used to produce phosphorus oxides, such as P4O10. How many kilograms of P4O10 would be produced from 41
eduard

Answer:

0.93956kg

Explanation:

Equation for the reaction is given as;

P4 + 5O2 --> P4O10

From the equation, 1 mole of P4 produces 1 mole of P4O10.

Mass = Number of moles * molar mass

Mass of P4 = 1 mol * 123.88 g/mol = 123.88 grams

Mass of P410 = 1 mol * 283.886 g/mol = 283.886 g

This means 123.88 grams of P4 produced 283.886 g of P4O10.

How many kilograms of P4O10 would be produced from 410. g of pure P4 ?

123.88 = 283.886

410 = x

x = (410 * 283.886 ) / 123.88

x = 939.56g

Upon converting to Kilogram by dividing by 1000

x = 0.93956kg
