The Keck Observatory is home to the largest Earth-based twin telescopes. The telescopes are located away from city lights, above

the clouds where the atmosphere is clear, calm, and dry. In 1999, additional steps were taken to help the telescopes overcome any distortions caused by changes in the atmosphere by adding a laser sighting system. Now, the Keck telescopes can probe distant galaxies and capture images with more detail than even the Hubble Space Telescope. Scientists can now use the Keck telescopes to investigate many questions. What is one question the Keck telescopes would NOT help scientists answer

Answer:

Option D

Explanation:

The options for the question are

a) How do galaxies rotate?

b) What is the weather on Neptune?

c) What is the core of Saturn made of?

d) What other solar systems have planets?

Solution

The Hubble space telescope was designed and integrated into the extraterrestrial system in order to capture information about the surrounding universe. If the  Keck Observatory has a better observation capacity than the Hubble space telescope then the scientist would be interested to know the surrounding planets in the solar system.

Hence, option D is correct

In this example we see how thermal expansion can actually throw off the accuracy of a length-measuring device—namely, a tape mea
Ulleksa [173]

Answer:

The new length is 50.00885m

Explanation:

linear thermal expansion coefficient Fe 11.8e-6 /K

The new length can be determined using the following equation:

∆L/L = α∆T, where α is linear thermal expansion coefficient

∆L = Lα∆T = 50(11.8e-6)(35-20) = 0.00885 m

New length = ( 50.000 + 0.00885)m =

New length = 50.00885 m

Adam drops a ball from rest from the top floor of a building at the same time Bob throws a ball horizontally from the same locat
guapka [62]

Answer:

Both balls hit the ground at the same time

Explanation:

Adam drops the ball from rest, so the ball just "<em>falls</em>" in vertical direction, being gravity its only acceleration, for cinematic movements we use that:

y(t)=y_{0}+v_{0y}t+\frac{1}{2}gt^{2}

In this case we have that gravity is negative, and as Adam drops the ball, v_{0y}=0

Bob throws the ball horizontally, so the movement will be a <em>parabola</em>, we can divide into horizontal direction, and vertical direction.

But we only need to analize the vertical movement, in wich again the only acceleration is gravity, and compare it with Adam's ball. Again we have that gravity is negative, and as the initial throw is horizontal, v_{0y}=0

Finally, we have that

y(t)=h-\frac{1}{2}gt^{2}

where

h=y_{0}

both for Adam's vertical drop, and for Bob's vertical component of the parabolic throw.

Now, if we put y(t)=0 (the origin of the vertical coordinate), we get for both cases that

h=\frac{1}{2}gt^{2}

where we can clear the value for the time t, of the fall, wich will be the same in both cases.

Hence, both balls hit the ground at the same time.

The center of a moon of mass m is a distance D from the center of a planet of mass M. At some distance x from the center of the
Eddi Din [679]

Answer:

x = D (M/M-m) 2.41

Explanation:

a) Let's apply Newton's second law to find the summation of force, where each force is given by the law of universal gravitation

        F = g m₁m₂ / r²

        Σ F = 0

       F1- F2 = 0

       F1 = F2

We set the reference system in the body of greatest mass (M) the planet

       F1 = g m₁ M / x²

       F2 = G m1 m / (D-x)²

      G m₁ M / x² = G m₁ m / (D-x)²

      M (D-x)² = m x²

      MD² -2MD x + M x² = m x²

     x² (M-m) -2MD x + MD² = 0

We solve the second degree equation

     x = [2MD  ±√ (4M²D² - 4 (M-m) MD²)] / 2 (M-m)

     x = {2MD ± 2D √ (M² + (M-m) M)} / 2 (M-m)

     x = D {M  ±  Ra (2M²-mM)} / (M-m)

    x = D (M ± M √ (2-m/M)) / (M-m)

    x = D (M / (M-m)) (1 ±√ (2-m/M)

Let's analyze this result, the value of M-m >> 1, so if we take the negative root, the value of x would be negative, it is out of the point between the two bodies, so the correct result must be taken with the positive root

    x = D (M / (M-m)) (1 + √2)

     x = D (M/M-m) 2.41

b) X = 2/3 D

     x = D (M/M-m) 2.41

     2/3 D = D (M/(M-m)) 2.41

     2/3 (M-m) = M 2.41

     2/3 M - 2/3 m = 2.41 M

     1.743 M = 0.667 m

     M/m = 0.667/1.743

     M/m =  0.38

The product or products of a reaction are determined by the type of reaction taking place. true or false
Bess [88]

Answer:

True

Explanation:

The products of a reaction are determined by the type of chemical reaction that are taking place. This is very true.

In chemical reactions, bonds are broken and atoms re-arranged to form new products.

  • By virtue of this, we can predict and know the kind of permissible combinations that can take place.
  • There are different kinds of chemical reaction.
  • They are synthesis, decomposition, single displacement, double displacement reactions e.t.c
  • Knowing these reactions gives insight into the likely products we can obtain.
