What happens when a chemical change occurs

Chemistry

Chemical change happens when a substance combines with another substance to form a new substance. It produces chemical reactions and generally is not reversible except by further chemical reactions. Heat is sometimes produced in some reactions. When chemical reactions occur, the atoms are rearranged and an energy change happens along with it as new products are generations. At a molecular level, chemical changes involves the making or breaking of bonds between atoms. Some examples of chemical change are iron rusting (iron oxide forms) and bread rising (yeast converts carbohydrates into carbon dioxide gas).

cupoosta [38]
If the trend is linear, that is boiling point increases by a constant amount for each additional saturated carbon, the boiling point of octane would be 69*2 because you are adding two saturated carbons. So the predicted boiling point is 138C, which is very close to the literature value

Materials expand when heated. Consider a metal rod of length L0 at temperature T0. If the temperature is changed by an amount ΔT
marysya [2.9K]

Answer:

(a) The length at temperature 180°C is 40.070 cm

(b) The length at temperature 90°C is 64.976 inches

(c) L(T, α) = 60·α·T - 9000·α + 60

Explanation:

(a) The given parameters are

The thermal expansion coefficient, α for steel = 1.24 × 10⁻⁵/°C

The initial length of the steel L₀ = 40 cm

The initial temperature, t₀ = 40°C

The length at temperature 180°C = L

Therefore, from the given relation, for change in length, ΔL, we have;

ΔL = α × L₀ × ΔT

The amount the temperature changed ΔT = 180°C - 40°C = 140°C

Therefore, the change in length, ΔL, is found as follows;

ΔL = α × L₀ × ΔT = 1.24 × 10⁻⁵/°C × 40 × 140°C = 0.07 cm

Therefore, L =  L₀ + ΔL = 40 + 0.07 = 40.07 cm

The length at temperature 180°C = 40.07 cm

(b) Given that the length at T = 120°C is 65 in., we have;

The temperature at which the new length is sought = 90°C

The amount the temperature changed ΔT = 90°C - 120°C = -30°C

ΔL = α × L₀ × ΔT = 1.24 × 10⁻⁵/°C × 65 × -30°C = -0.024375 inches

The length, L at 90°C is therefore, L = L₀ + ΔL = 65 - 0.024375 = 64.976 in.

The length at temperature 90°C = 64.976 inches

(c) L = L₀ + ΔL  = L₀ +  α × L₀ × ΔT = L₀ +  α × L₀ × (T - T₀)

Therefore;

L = 60 +  α × 60 × (T - 150°C)

L = 60 + α × 60 × T - 9000 × α

L(T, α) = 60·α·T - 9000·α + 60

A particle with a charge of 9.40 nC is in a uniform electric field directed to the left. Another force, in addition to the elect
juin [17]

Answer:

a. Work done by the electric force = -2.85 * ×10⁻⁵ J

b. The potential of the starting point with respect to the end point = -3.03 * 10³ V

c. The magnitude of the electric field is 33.7kV/m

Explanation:

Given.

Charge = Q = 9.40 nC

Distance = d = 9.00 cm = 0.09m

Amount of work = 7.10×10⁻⁵ J

Kinetic energy = K = 4.25×10⁻⁵ J

a. What work was done by the electric force?

This is calculated by; change in Kinetic Energy i.e. ∆KE

∆KE = ∆K2 - ∆Kæ

Where K2 = 4.25×10⁻⁵ J

The body is released at rest, so the initial velocity is 0.

So, K1 = 0

Also, total work done = W1 + W2

Where W2 = 7.10×10⁻⁵J

So, W1 + W2 = W = K2

W1 + 7.10×10⁻⁵ = 4.25×10⁻⁵

W1 = 4.25×10⁻⁵ - 7.10×10⁻⁵

W = -2.85 * ×10⁻⁵ J

Work done by the electric force = -2.85 * ×10⁻⁵ J

b. What is the potential of the starting point with respect to the end point?

The change in potential energy is given as

W = ∆U

W = Q|V2 - V1| where V1 = 0 because the body starts from rest

So, W = QV2

Make V the Subject of the formula

V2 = W/Q

V2 = -2.85 * ×10⁻⁵ J / 9.40 nC

V2 = -2.85 * ×10⁻⁵ J / 9.40 * 10^-9C

V2 = −3031.9148936170212765957V

V2 = -3.03 * 10³ V

The potential of the starting point with respect to the end point = -3.03 * 10³ V

c. What is the magnitude of the electric field?

The magnitude of the electric field is calculated as follows;

W = -Fd = -QEd

And E = V/d

E = -3.03 * 10³ V / 0.09 m

E = −33687.943262411347517730 V/m

E = -33.7kV/m

The magnitude of the electric field is 33.7kV/m
