Answer:

The true statements are;

a.The decrease in the amplitude of an oscillation caused by dissipative forces is called damping

b.An oscillation that is maintained by a driving force is called forced oscillation

Explanation:

To answer the question, we analyze each of the options as follows;

a.The decrease in the amplitude of an oscillation caused by dissipative forces is called damping.

The above statement is true as damped oscillation is one in which the amplitude is decreased by dissipative forces

b.An oscillation that is maintained by a driving force is called forced oscillation.

When a damped oscillator is allowed to oscillate by itself, it will stop eventually. However when a force is applied to maintain the oscillation the oscillation is then known as a forced oscillation

The above statement is true

c.In a mechanical system, the amplitude of an oscillation diminishes with time unless the lost mechanical energy is replaced.

The above statement is only true in damped oscillation system

d.The increase in amplitude of an oscillation by a driving force is called forced oscillation.

Forced oscillation, as described above, is one the maintains the oscillation of  damped oscillator, therefore, the above statement is not correct.

Which is not a source of electrical energy in the United States
xenn [34]

Every practical source of energy that you can imagine, as well as a few impractical ones, are used somewhere in the USA.

From whale oil in Alaska, to nuclear energy, to coal, petroleum, natural gas, solar energy, wind energy, and biomass.

Oh ! Geothermal energy and tidal energy aren't too popular, but I'll bet if you looked, you'd find these used too, SOMEwhere in the 50 states.

How does water get up to the atmosphere, and how does it get back down to earth surface
IrinaK [193]

Answer:

Water gets up to the Earth's atmosphere by evaporating from a body of water, which is then they become water vapor. It returns back to the surface by returning back to its water state and falling back down (as rain). The water vapor turns into clouds (clouds are really just water droplets), and when it cannot hold anymore waters, it disperses all the water (by raining).

A 06-C charge and a .07-C charge are apart at 3 m apart. What force attracts them?
Andru [333]

Answer:

F = 37.8 × 10^(6) N

Explanation:

The charges are 0.06 C and 0.07 C.

Thus;

Charge 1; q1 = 0.06 C

Charge 2; q2 = 0.07 C

Distance between them; r = 3 m

Formula for the force in between them is;

F = kq1•q2/r²

Where k is a constant = 9 × 10^(9) N.m²/C²

Thus;

F = (9 × 10^(9) × 0.06 × 0.07)/3²

F = 37.8 × 10^(6) N

Question 1

In order to do work, the force vector must be

in the same direction as the displacement vector and the motion.

Question 2

In which of the following cases is work being done on an object?

Pulling a trailer up a hill

Question 3

Which situation is an example of NOT doing work?

carrying a box

Question 4

Work is measured in

Joules

Question 5

To find the work done, the force exerted and distance moved are multiplied. A couch is moved twice before you are happy with its placement. The same force was used to move the couch both times. If more work is done the first time it is moved, what do you know about the distance it was moved?

When more work was done, the couch was moved further.

Question 6

A weight lifter raises a 1600 N barbell to a height of 2.0 meters. How much work was done? W = Fd

3200 Joules

Question 7

You and a friend (Alex) are at a a tree-top adventure park .. . . part of the course requires you to climb up a rope. You both climb the same rope in the same amount of time. However, the tension in the rope is greater

when Alex climbs. Who did the most work?

Alex did - more tension means more force - more force means more work was done

Question 8

Doing work at a faster rate creates power.

Question 9

In one challenge on the Titan Games, competitors have to lift 200 pounds up a long ramp. Angel is able to move the weight in 42 seconds. Anthony gets it done in only 38 seconds. Which statement is true?

Anthony has more power than Angel.

Question 10

A mountain climber exerts 41,000 J of work to climb a cliff. How much power does the climber need if she wants to finish in only 500 seconds? Power = Work / time

82 Watts

Question 11

Your family is moving to a new apartment. While lifting a box 83 Joules of work is done to put the box on a truck, you exert an upward force of 75 N for 3 s. How much power is required to do this? (Hint: You only need two of the 3 numbers given!) Power = Work / time

27.7 Watts
