Burl the painter weighs 600 Newtons. He stands in the exact middle of his stage. There are two scale readings attached to the tw

o cords holding up the stage.
The image shows a painter standing in the middle of a scaffold that is hanging with two ropes on each end. Each rope has a spring scale.

What is the weight measured by each scale?

Answer:

T = 300 N

Explanation:

As we know that the painter is standing at the middle of the scaffold

So here the two ropes will exert same tension on the scaffold

So we will have

T_1 + T_2 = W

also we know

T_1 = T_2

so we will have

2T = W

T = \frac{W}{2}

so tension is half of the weight in both the strings

So it is

T = 300 N

A boy weighing 445 N swings on a 2-m long swing. If his horizontal speed at the lowest point is 3 m/s, what total force must the
levacccp [35]

Explanation:

We need to calculate the centripetal force:

Fc = W + F

With Fc being the centripetal force, W the weight of the boy, F the centrifugal force (apparent).

We know that we can calculate the apparent centrifugal force thank to the formula:

F = (m·v²)/r = 204N

So we can write:

Fc = W + F = 445N + 204N = 649N

A student throws a 130 g snowball at 6.5 m/s at the side of the schoolhouse, where it hits and sticks. What is the magnitude of
Alex73 [517]

Answer:

4.7 N

Explanation:

130 g = 0.13 kg

The momentum of the snowball when it's thrown at the wall is

p = mv = 0.13*6.5 = 0.845 kgm/s

Which is also the impulse. From here we can calculate the magnitude of the average force F knowing the duration of the collision is 0.18 s

p = F\Delta t

F*0.18 = 0.845

F = 0.845 / 0.18 = 4.7 N
