Liam throws a water balloon horizontally at 8.2 m/s out of a window 18 m from the ground.
Alecsey [184]

Time taken by the water balloon to reach the bottom will be given as

h = \frac{1}{2} gt^2

here we know that

h = 18 m

g = 9.8 m/s^2

now by the above formula

18 = \frac{1}{2}*9.8* t^2

18 = 4.9 t^2

t = 1.92 s

now in the same time interval we can say the distance moved by it will be

d = v_x * t

d = 8.2 * 1.92 = 15.7 m

so it will fall at a distance 15.7 m from its initial position

Depth of a pond seems shallower than real depth,why?
IgorLugansk [536]

Answer:

The refraction of light at the surface of water makes ponds and swimming pools appear shallower than they really are. A 1m deep pond would only appear to be 0.75 m deep when viewed from directly above. When light emerges from glass or water into air it speeds up again.

A pen rolls off a 0.55–meter high table with an initial horizontal velocity of 1.2 meters/second. At what horizontal distance fr
NARA [144]
To find the horizontal distance multiple the horizontal velocity by the time. Since there is no given time it must be calculated using kinematic equation.

Y=Yo+Voyt+1/2at^2
0=.55+0+1/2(-9.8)t^2
-.55=-4.9t^2
sqrt(.55/4.9)=t
t=0.335 seconds

Horizontal distance
=0.335s*1.2m/s
=0.402 meters
