Arrange the following atoms in order of increasing first ionization energy: He, Be, Se, Ne
Alex17521 [72]

Answer:

Be (899 kj/mol) , Se (940.9 kj/mol), Ne(2081 kj/mol), He (2370 kj/mol),

Explanation:

For noble gases as they have complete octet so they require high amount of energy to remove the electron.

Trend along period:

As we move from left to right across the periodic table the number of valance electrons in an atom increase. The atomic size tend to decrease in same period of periodic table because the electrons are added with in the same shell. When the electron are added, at the same time protons are also added in the nucleus. The positive charge is going to increase and this charge is greater in effect than the charge of electrons. This effect lead to the greater nuclear attraction. The electrons are pull towards the nucleus and valance shell get closer to the nucleus. As a result of this greater nuclear attraction atomic radius decreases and ionization energy increases because it is very difficult to remove the electron from atom and more energy is required.

Trend along group:

As we move down the group atomic radii increased with increase of atomic number. The addition of electron in next level cause the atomic radii to increased. The hold of nucleus on valance shell become weaker because of shielding of electrons thus size of atom increased.

As the size of atom increases the ionization energy from top to bottom also  decreases because it becomes easier to remove the electron because of less nuclear attraction and as more electrons are added the outer electrons becomes more shielded and away from nucleus.

4.Calculate the volume of 40g of Helium (He) at rtp.
Oksana_A [137]

Answer:

2.24dm³

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Mass of He = 40g

Unknown:

Volume of Helium  = ?

Solution:

To solve this problem, we convert the given mass to number of moles.

   Number of moles  = \frac{mass}{molar mass}

   molar mass of He  = 4g/mol

  Number of moles  = \frac{4}{40}   = 0.1mole

So;

                  1 mole of gas at rtp occupies a volume of 22.4dm³

                0.1 mole of He will occupy a volume of 0.1 x 22.4 = 2.24dm³

For alkyl halides used in SN1 and SN2 mechanisms, rank the leaving groups in order of reaction rate. You are currently in a rank
Alex777 [14]

Answer:

Iodide> Bromide > chloride > flouride

Explanation:

During a nucleophilic substitution reaction, a nucleophilie replaces another in a molecule.

This process may occur via an ionic mechanism (SN1) or via a concerted mechanism (SN2).

In either case, the ease of departure of the leaving group is determined by the nature of the C-X bond. The stronger the C-X bond, the worse the leaving group will be in nucleophilic substitution. The order of strength of C-X bond is F>Cl>Br>I.

Hence, iodine displays the weakest C-X bond strength and it is thus, a very good leaving group in nucleophillic substitution while fluorine displays a very high C-X bond strength hence it is a bad leaving group in nucleophilic substitution.

Therefore, the ease of the use of halide ions as leaving groups follows the trend; Iodide> Bromide > chloride > flouride

Consider the reaction between no and cl2 to form nocl: 2no(g)+cl2(g)⇌2nocl(g) a reaction mixture at a certain temperature initia
AlladinOne [14]

Answer:

Kc = 0.402.

Explanation:

  • We can calculate Kc from the relation: Kc = [NOCl]² / [NO]²[Cl₂].
  • [NOCl] = 0.30 M, [NO] = 0.65 M, and [Cl₂] = 0.53 M.
  • Now, we can get Kc:
  • Kc =  [NOCl]² / [NO]²[Cl₂] = (0.30 M)² / [(0.65 M)².(0.53 M)] = 0.402.
