Explanation:

The following are the basic assumptions of the Kinetic Molecular Theory: The volume occupied by the individual particles of a gas is negligible compared to the volume of the gas itself. ... Gas particles are in a constant state of random motion and move in straight lines until they collide with another body.

An object with total mass mtotal = 16.2 kg is sitting at rest when it explodes into three pieces. One piece with mass m1 = 4.7 k
vichka [17]

Answer:

1.) 0 kgm/s

2) 6.3 kg

3) -0.0978 m/s

4)

5)

6)

An object with total mass mtotal = 16.2 kg is sitting at rest when it explodes into three pieces. One piece with mass m1 = 4.7 kg moves up and to the left at an angle of θ1 = 23° above the –x axis with a speed of v1 = 25.4 m/s. A second piece with mass m2 = 5.2 kg moves down and to the right an angle of θ2 = 28° to the right of the -y axis at a speed of v2 = 23.8 m/s.

2) What is the mass of the third piece?

3) What is the x-component of the velocity of the third piece?

4) What is the y-component of the velocity of the third piece?

5) What is the magnitude of the velocity of the center of mass of the pieces after the collision?

6) Calculate the increase in kinetic energy of the pieces during the explosion

Explanation:

Since explosions and collisions follow the law of conservation of Momentum.

1) Magnitude of the final momentum of the system = Magnitude of the initial momentum of the system

Since the body was initially at rest,

Magnitude of the initial momentum of the system = 0 kgm/s

Hence, Magnitude of the final momentum of the system is also equal to 0 kgm/s.

2) mass of the third piece

Sum of all the masses = 16.2 kg

4.7 + 5.2 + c = 16.2

c = 6.3 kg

3) doing an x-component balance on momentum

(4.7)×(-25.4 cos 23) + (5.2)×(23.8 cos 28) + (6.3)(v) = 0

-0.6163 + 6.3v = 0

v = -0.0978 m/s

Hope this Helps!!!

Summarize ocean acidification in one sentence.
Snowcat [4.5K]

Answer:

The ocean absorbs a significant portion of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from human activities, equivalent to about one-third of the total emissions for the past 200 years from fossil fuel combustion, cement production and land-use change (Sabine et al., 2004). Uptake of CO2 by the ocean benefits society by moderating the rate of climate change but also causes unprecedented changes to ocean chemistry, decreasing the pH of the water and leading to a suite of chemical changes collectively known as ocean acidification. Like climate change, ocean acidification is a growing global problem that will intensify with continued CO2 emissions and has the potential to change marine ecosystems and affect benefits to society.

The average pH of ocean surface waters has decreased by about 0.1 unit—from about 8.2 to 8.1—since the beginning of the industrial revolution, with model projections showing an additional 0.2-0.3 drop by the end of the century, even under optimistic scenarios (Caldeira and Wickett, 2005).1 Perhaps more important is that the rate of this change exceeds any known change in ocean chemistry for at least 800,000 years (Ridgewell and Zeebe, 2005). The major changes in ocean chemistry caused by increasing atmospheric CO2 are well understood and can be precisely calculated, despite some uncertainty resulting from biological feedback processes. However, the direct biological effects of ocean acidification are less certain

1 “Acidification” does not mean that the ocean has a pH below neutrality. The average pH of the ocean is still basic (8.1), but because the pH is decreasing, it is described as undergoing acidification.

and will vary among organisms, with some coping well and others not at all. The long-term consequences of ocean acidification for marine biota are unknown, but changes in many ecosystems and the services they provide to society appear likely based on current understanding (Raven et al., 2005).

In response to these concerns, Congress requested that the National Research Council conduct a study on ocean acidification in the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Reauthorization Act of 2006. The Committee on the Development of an Integrated Science Strategy for Ocean Acidification Monitoring, Research, and Impacts Assessment is charged with reviewing the current state of knowledge and identifying key gaps in information to help federal agencies develop a program to improve understanding and address the consequences of ocean acidification (see Box S.1 for full statement of task). Shortly after the study was underway, Congress passed another law—the Federal Ocean Acidification Research and Monitoring (FOARAM) Act of 2009—which calls for, among other things, the establishment of a federal ocean acidification program; this report is directed to the ongoing strategic planning process for such a program.

Although ocean acidification research is in its infancy, there is already growing evidence of changes in ocean chemistry and ensuing biological impacts. Time-series measurements and other field data have documented the decrease in ocean pH and other related changes in seawater chemistry (Dore et al., 2009). The absorption of anthropogenic CO2 by the oceans increases the concentration of hydrogen ions in seawater (quanti-

Traveling in circle requires a net force
seraphim [82]

Answer:

Circular motion requires a net inward or "centripetal" force. Without a net centripetal force, an object cannot travel in circular motion. In fact, if the forces are balanced, then an object in motion continues in motion in a straight line at constant speed.

Just need help with 1 and 2 please :D i’m having a bit of trouble :/
dexar [7]
1. Traveling by car means you have specific roads to follow. You won’t be able to go straight to Banning high from POLAHS. The 8.4km will be defined as distance. Traveling by helicopter you don’t have roads to follow that means you can fly directly to banning high. 6.8km will be defined as displacement.

2. A) 400m
B)0m
C)d=1/2(vi+vf)t
400=1/2(0+vf)92
8.7m/s
D) 0m/s
E) Not sure but instantaneous velocity refer to velocity at a given point. Average velocity is just the average. Usually instantaneous velocity won’t be same as the average velocity.

A ball is tossed straight up from the surface of a small, spherical asteroid with no atmosphere. The ball rises to a height equa
alukav5142 [94]

Answer:

d. equal to one-fourth the acceleration at the surface of the asteroid.

Explanation:

The explanation is attached as a picture with this answer

Newton's law of universal gravitation is being used to compare the accelerations at the surface and at the top of the ball's path.

as it can be seen in the explanation that the proportional form of the equation is used because we do not need to necessarily use to final form with "G" for comparison calculations.

As per the given scenario only difference between the two points in the gravitational field is the distance from center of the spherical asteroid, i.e. r.

It is taken 2r for the top is the path. hence we obtain (1/4)g as our answer.
