2. A cell with few energy needs would most
sattari [20]

A Cell with few energy needs would most likely contain a small number of Mitochondria.

  • All cells require energy to function, but cells typically have significant energy needs that can only be met by the mitochondria, the cell's powerhouse.
  • They transform glucose into ATP, a chemical with a huge energy storage capacity.
  • Muscles have a large number of mitochondria, allowing them to react rapidly and powerfully to the body's ongoing need for energy.
  • Macromolecules, defunct cell components, and microbes are all digested by lysosomes.
  • Vacuoles are typically tiny and aid in the sequestration of waste.
  • The ribosome, an intercellular structure consisting of both RNA and protein, is where a cell produces new proteins.

Therefore out of all these cell organelles, the cell has fewer mitochondria for less energy need.

Calculate the concentrations of all species present in a 0.26 M solution of ethylammonium chloride (C2H5NH3Cl).
Alina [70]

Answer:

0.00000223

Explanation:

pKa for C2H5NH3+ = 10.7

pKw = 14.0

pKa + pKb = pKw

10.7 + pKb = 14.0

pKb = 14.0 - 10.7

pKb = 3.30

C2H5NH3Cl is a salt of ethylamine and HCl so it will dissolve in water to produce  C2H5NH3^+ + Cl^-

The base hydrolysis reaction:  C2H5NH3^+(aq) + H2O(l) <=> C2H5NH2(aq) + H3O^+(aq)

This reaction is described by Kb.

Kb = [C2H5NH2][H3O^+]/[C2H5NH3^+]

Let [C2H5NH2] = [H3O^+] = x,

so [C2H5NH3^+] = 0.26 - x

Kb = x^2/(0.26 - x) = 2.00 x 10^-11

Let's solve for x. In this equation,  It is possible to solve without the use quadratic equation. So we can assume that 0.26 - x  is approximately equal to 0.26.  We won't know until we do the calculation.

We get:  x^2 + 2.00 x 10^-11x - 4.99 x 10^-12 = 0

With the use of a quadratic calculator.

x = 2.23 x 10^-6 M = [C2H5NH2] = [H3O^+]

0.26 - x  is just 0.26 M in this problem because 2.23 x 10^-6 M is insignificant.

[C2H5NH3^+] = 0.26 M = [Cl^-]

NOTE:

pH = -log [H3O^+] = -log(2.23 x 10^-6) = 5.65

Ka is the acid dissociation constant

Kb is the base dissociation constant

What is the mass in grams of 394 mL of ethylene glycol? Express your answer with the appropriate units.
AleksandrR [38]

Answer : The mass of ethylene glycol is, 437.34 grams

Solution : Given,

Volume of ethylene glycol = 394 ml

Density of ethylene glycol = 1.11 g/ml    (Standard value)

Formula used :

Density=\frac{Mass}{Volume}

Now put all the given values in this formula, we get the mass of ethylene glycol.

1.11g/ml=\frac{Mass}{394ml}

Mass=437.34g

Therefore, the mass of ethylene glycol is, 437.34 grams

Which of the following reactions would be classified as oxidation-reduction? Check all that apply. View Available Hint(s) Check
erica [24]

Answer:The 1st and 2nd reactions are the example of oxidation -reduction.

Explanation:

Oxidation is basically when a species  loses electrons and  reduction is basically when the species gains  electrons.

A reaction is known as an oxidation -reduction reaction only if  oxidation and reduction simultaneously occur in the reaction. It basically means if a species is getting oxidized in the reaction then the other species present in the system must be reduced in the reaction.

Oxidation-reduction reactions are also known as redox reactions.

In the 1st reaction the oxidation state of Na in reactant is 0 and in products is +1 hence Na is oxidized and the oxidation state of   chlorine is  0 in reactants and  in products is  -1 so chlorine is reduced. Hence Na is oxidized and Cl is reduced so the reaction is a example of oxidation-reduction.

2Na(s)+Cl₂(g)→2NaCl(s)

In the second reaction the oxidation state of Na in reactant is 0 and in products is +1 hence Na is oxidized and the oxidation state of Cu is +1 in reactant and 0 in products so Cu is reduced. Hence Na is oxidized and Cu is reduced so the reaction is an example of oxidation-reduction.

Na(s)+CuCl(aq)→NaCl(aq)+Cu(s)

In the third reaction the oxidation state of Na changes from +1 to +1 and that of Cu also changes from +1 to +1. So there is no change in oxidation state of the species present in reactants and products. Hence this reaction is not an example of oxidation and reduction.
