The following combination of n=3 ; l=1 ; ml=-2 is not allowed. One way to correct this would be by changing the azimuthal quantum number, l and the other way would be to change the magnetic quantum number, m.

<h3>Is the following combination n=3; l=1; ml=-2 allowed or not.? If not, suggest two ways through which it can be corrected.</h3>

The following combination of n=3 ; l=1 ; ml=-2 is not allowed.

There are several rules that need to be followed for assigning electron quantum numbers. They are:

1. Principal quantum number should be 1 ≤ n

2. Azimuthal quantum number, 0 ≤ l ≤ n − 1

3. Magnetic quantum number, -l ≤ ml ≤ l

4. Spin quantum number as either -1/2 or +1/2

For n = 3,

l should be n - 1 or n - 2 or n - 3 = 2, 1, 0 respectively.

If we choose l = 1 then ml should be -1, 0 and +1

Therefore, one way to correct the combination would be to change the magnetic quantum number to -1

If we choose l = 2 then ml would be -2, -1, 0, +1, +2

Thus, another way to correct the combination is to choose the azimuthal quantum number as 2.

Thus, the following combination of n=3; l=1; ml=-2 is not allowed. One way to correct this would be by changing the azimuthal quantum number, l and the other way would be to change the magnetic quantum number, m.

Identify the ion ratios needed to form neutral compounds from the ions below. The metal ion (cation) is listed first, and the no
Natasha2012 [34]
To figure out the ratios of these compounds, it is important to remember that the charge of these compounds must be <em>neutral</em>.

So in order to make them neutral, you must have specific ratios:

Na^{+}: Br^{-} =1:1; This is true because they both have a charge of magnitude of 1.

Al^{3+}: Cl^{-}=1:3; We need 3 chlorine atoms because we need to balance out the charge from the 3+ charge of aluminum - therefore since chlorine has a 1- charge, we need 3 atoms.

Mg^{2+}: O^{2-}=1:1; The charges of the magnesium (2+) are balanced with the oxygen charge (2-).

Al^{3+}: O^{2-}=2:3; This is correct because if charges are like this, you must find the least common factor in order to know the ratio. The LCF is 6, therefore, for the atom with a 3+ charge, you need 2 of them, and for the atom with a 2- charge, you need 3 of them. This keeps the charge neutral.

If an atom should form from its constituent particles,
tia_tia [17]

Answer:

(b) matter is lost and energy is released

Explanation:

When atoms are being formed from its constituent components it weighs less this is called mass defect so the answer would be (b) matter is lost and energy is released.
