Oxygen is very crucial to the survival of fish in ponds. Fish needs energy to breath. When the concentration of oxygen in the water is reduced as a result of one factor or the other, it leads to the death of the fishes that are living in that pond. The value of oxygen needed in water for fishes to survive ranges from 3 to 10 part per million. The amount of oxygen needed in a pond usually increase as the temperature of the water increases.

If the oxygen concentration in the pond is not optimum, there will no aquatic life and hence, the ecosystem will be affected.
