What is the molarity of 10g of carbon in a 500L solution?

Chemistry

Answer:

Molarity is the number of moles in a liter of a substance.

Molarity= Mole/volume

Mass= 10g

Molar mass of Carbon=12g

To calculate the mole we use the formula: mole= mass/molar mass

Mole = 10g/12g

Mole = 0.83

Molarity= 0.83/500 =0.0017moles per liter

A stock solution is 28.2 percent ammonia (NH3) by mass, and the solution has a density of 0.8990 grams per milliliter. What volu
Savatey [412]

Answer:

\boxed{\text{20.2 mL}}

Explanation:

Assume that the volume of the stock solution is 1 L.

1. Mass of  stock solution

\text{Mass} = \text{1000 mL} \times \dfrac{\text{0.8990 g}}{\text{1 mL}} = \text{899.0 g}

2.Mass of NH₃

\text{Mass of NH}_{3} = \text{899.0 g stock} \times \dfrac{\text{28.2 g NH}_{3}}{\text{100 g stock}} = \text{253.5 g NH}_{3}

3. Moles of NH₃

\text{Moles of NH}_{3} = \text{253.5 g NH}_{3}\times \dfrac{\text{1 mol NH}_{3}}{\text{17.03 g NH}_{3}}= \text{14.89 mol NH}_{3}

4. Molar concentration of stock solution

c = \dfrac{\text{moles}}{\text{litres}} = \dfrac{\text{14.89 mol}}{\text{1 L}} = \text{14.89 mol/L}

5. Volume of stock needed for dilution

Now that you know the concentration of the stock solution, you can use the dilution formula .

c_{1}V_{1} = c_{2}V_{2}

to calculate the volume of stock solution.

Data:

c₁ = 14.89   mol·L⁻¹; V₁ = ?

c₂ = 0.500 mol·L⁻¹; V₂ = 600 mL

Calculations:

\begin{array}{rcl}14.89V_{1} & = & 0.500 \times 600\\14.89V_{1} & = & 300\\V_{1} & = & \text{20.2 mL}\\\end{array}\\\text{You will need $\boxed{\textbf{20.2 mL}}$ of the stock solution.}

What is the concentration, in grams per liter, of a solution prepared by dissolving 0.00040 mol HCl in 2.2 L H2O? Assume that th
Zolol [24]

Answer:

0.00663 grams/liter

Explanation:

HCl is a mineral acid with a molar mass of 36.46 g/mol.

No. of moles= mass/RMM

Making mass the subject of the formula:

Mass=Number of moles × RMM

Therefore 0.00040 mol HCl has a mass of:

0.00040 mol × 36.46 g/ mol

=0.01458 grams.

0.01458 grams are in 2.2 liters, Therefore 1 liter will have

0.01458 grams/2.2 liters= 0.00663 grams

concentration= 0.00663 grams/liter

Compare the structure of silicon oxide and Diamond and describe their physically properties in terms of These structure
Iteru [2.4K]

Answer:

Here's what I get

Explanation:

Both diamond and SiO₂ are network solids. Their atoms are all joined together so a crystal of either diamond or SO₂is one giant molecule.

Structure

In diamond, each C atom is covalently attached to four other C atoms.

The structure of SiO₂ is like that of diamond. The difference is that there is an O atom between each atom of Si.

Properties

Both substances are

  • High-melting
  • Hard
  • Insoluble in both polar and nonpolar solvents
  • Poor conductors of electricity
