The higher the attraction for an electron, the higher the electronegativity. It increases as you move left to right and down to up on the periodic table.

Answer:

To calculate electronegativy, find the electronegative values of each element involved in the bond. Once you know those values, subtract the higher from the lower to determine the electronegative difference.

Explanation:

Obtain an electronegativity value chart

Every element on the periodic table has a set electronegativity; these charts are easily obtainable through the Internet or a general chemistry textbook. Electronegativity is the ability of an element to attract electrons towards itself.

Determine the electronegativity of the individual elements in the bond

Using the table obtained in step one, find the electronegative value of each element. On the periodic table, electronegativity increases from left to right along a period and decreases as you go down a group.

Determine the electronegative difference between the two elements

Subtract the smaller electronegative value obtained from the larger electronegative value. This positive value is the electronegative difference for the bond. A larger electronegative difference represents a polar bond in which the sharing of electrons is unequal.

Use the electronegative difference to determine the type of bond

The closer the electronegative difference is to zero, the less polar a bond is. An electronegative difference of zero represents a nonpolar bond. A value between zero and two represents a polar covalent bond. A value greater than two represents an ionic bond. Fluorine is the most electronegative element, with an electronegativity of 4.0.

In the following chemical equation, identify the products and reactants and indicate whether or not the equation is balanced. If
aleksandr82 [10.1K]

Answer:

a). The products are C6H12O6 O2 and the reactants are CO2 + H20 + (solar (light) energy)

b). The reaction chemical reaction is balanced from the number of moles of reactants and products

Explanation:

Through photosynthesis green plants, some protistans and some bacteria in the presence of energy from sunlight, produce glucose as well as oxygen from carbon dioxide and water.

It is a chemical reaction taking place in green plant to produce food which it uses to survive.

Photosynthesis requires carbon dioxide, water and solar energy in the leaves of a plant for it to take place.

The equation for photosynthesis is as follows: 6CO2 + 6H20 + (solar (light) energy) → C6H12O6 + 6O2

The products are C6H12O6 O2

and the reactants are CO2 + H20 + (solar (light) energy)

The reaction chemical reaction is balanced from the number of moles of reactants and products

Is cooking food a chemical change or physical change
Monica [59]

Explanation:

A chemical change results from a chemical reaction, while a physical change is when matter changes forms but not chemical identity. Examples of chemical changes are burning, cooking, rusting, and rotting. Examples of physical changes are boiling, melting, freezing, and shredding.

To understand why cooking is a chemical change, you should first understand what is a chemical change. Basically, all changes in this world can be classified as either physical changes or chemical changes. The difference is that chemical changes bring about new substances while physical changes don’t. Take the example of baking: when you bake a cake, the most immediately observable change is that it expands. This is because the baking soda in it has undergone a chemical change under heat to release carbon dioxide. Notice there is no carbon dioxide in the cake before we bake it. That is what I mean by bringing about new substances.

So why is cooking a chemical change? Because almost all cooking methods involving the rise of temperature (which is basically to say, all cooking methods) involve chemical changes. Once under heat, the antioxidants omnipresent in vegetables will get oxidized and the proteins in meats will get denatured. Among other things, the former process will mostly result in the change of color of the vegetables, and the latter the stiffening of the meats

If you evaporated 125 mL of a 3.5 M solution of iron(II) nitrite, how many moles of iron(II) nitrite would you recover?
Serhud [2]

If 125 mL of a 3.5 M solution were evaporated, 0.438 moles of iron (II) nitrite would be recovered.

What is molarity?

Molarity is a measure of the concentration of a chemical species, in particular of a solute in a solution, in terms of moles of solute per liter of solution.

We want to find the moles of iron (II) nitrite (solute) in 125 mL of a 3.5 M solution. We will use the definition of molarity.

M = n / V(L)

n = M × V(L) = 3.5 mol/L × 0.125 L = 0.438 mol

where,

 • M is the molarity.
 • n is the number of moles.
 • V(L) is the volume of the solution in liters.

If 125 mL of a 3.5 M solution were evaporated, 0.438 moles of iron (II) nitrite would be recovered.
