Answer: The cohesive forces between liquid molecules are responsible for the surface tension in water.

Explanation:The cohesive forces between the molecules inside the liquid are tied together with the atoms in the surrounding liquid.

The molecules on top of the liquid has no surrounding atoms and so show stronger forces thereby forming a thin film on the surface of the water.

This makes it hard for objects to move freely through the surface of the water except it is completely submerged in the water.

The surface tension of water is 72dynes/cm which means it will take 72 dunes to break the surface tension.
