<span>Because hydrocarbons consist only C-H bonds, which are non-polar. When you look at the table of electronegativity (Pauling scale), you see, that the difference between the electronegativities of carbon and hydrogen is much smaller than that of nitrogen and hydrogen.

<span>This is not the case in the hydrocarbon tail. The electronegativity of hydrogen and carbon are very similar, so the electron cloud is distributed evenly over the two atoms. Carbon-hydrogen bonds are said to be non-polar because they do not have positive and negative poles within themselves. Hope this helps. </span>

Find the mass in grams of aluminum nitrate, Al(NO3)3, required to mix with 750 g of water to makea 1.5m solution.
Law Incorporation [45]
Answer:
            Mass  =  239.62 g

Explanation:

Molality is given as,

                               m  =  Moles of Solute / Kg of Solvent   ---  (1)

Data Given;
                   Molality  =  1.5 m

                   Mass of Solvent  =  750 g  =  0.75 Kg

Solving eq. 1 for Moles,

                          Moles  =  Molality × Mass of Solvent

Putting values,
                          Moles  =  1.5 mol.Kg⁻¹ × 0.75 Kg

                          Moles  =  1.125 mol

Calculating mass from moles,

                          Moles  =  Mass / M.mass
Or,
                          Mass  =  Moles × M.mass

Putting values,
                          Mass  =  1.125 mol × 213 g.mol⁻¹

                          Mass  =  239.62 g

When 1.5 mol calcium nitrate dissolves in water, how many moles of ions should be present in solution?
____ [38]

Answer:

1.5 moles of Ca²⁺ and 3 moles of NO₃⁻

Explanation:

This is the dissociation:

Ca(NO₃)₂  →  Ca²⁺  +  2NO₃⁻

1.5 moles of salt will have the same moles of ion Ca²⁺ and the double of moles, of nitrate according to the equation.

Therefore will be 1.5 moles of Ca²⁺ and 3 moles of NO₃⁻

Perform the following conversions:
ololo11 [35]

Answer:

a) 20^0C and 293K

b) 437K and 327.2^0F

c) -273^0C and 459.44^0F

Explanation:

Temperature of the gas is defined as the degree of hotness or coldness of a body. It is expressed in units like ^0C , ^0Fand K

These units of temperature are inter convertible.

t^0C=(t+273)K

t^oC=\frac{5}{9}\times (t^oF-32)

K-273=\frac{5}{9}\times (^oF-32)

a)  68°F (a pleasant spring day) to °C and K.

Converting this unit of temperature into ^0C and K by using conversion factor:

t^oC=\frac{5}{9}\times (68^oF-32)

t=20^0C

20^0C=(20+273)K=293K

b) 164°C (the boiling point of methane, the main component of natural gas) to K and °F

Conversion from degree Celsius to Kelvins  and Fahrenheit

164C=\frac{5}{9}\times (t^oF-32)

t^0F=327.2

164°C=(164+273)K=437 K

c) 0K (absolute zero, theoretically the coldest possible temperature) to °C and °F.

K-273=\frac{5}{9}\times (t^oF-32)

0-273=\frac{5}{9}\times (t^oF-32)

t=-459.4^0F

t^K=(0-273)^0C=-273^0C
