You believe you have cracked a secret code that uses elemental symbols to spell words. The code uses numbers to designate the el

emental symbols. Each number is the sum of the atomic number and the highest principal quantum number of the highest occupied orbital of the element whose symbol is to be used. The message may be written forward or backward. Decode the following messages.
Questions:
Part A. 5, 30, 58, 56, 99, 79, 19, 98, 9
Part B. 9, 99, 30, 95, 19, 47, 79

Explanation:

Atomic numbers for neutral atoms are the same as the number of electrons. The number of electrons are used in writing the subshell notation where we can see the highest princpal quantum number(n).

In order to solve this problem, a good knowledge of the periodic table and shell notation is required.

For example;

  Given a number 5;

     We know the number is made of both the atomic number of the element and the highest quantum number.

  It is easier for us to know the highest quantum number from the shell notation:

        shell notation 1s²2s²2p¹

        highest principal quantum number is 2

  We are left with atomic number 5-2, which is 3

           The element is therefore Li.

Part A.   5,     30,      58,      56,     99,     79,    19,     98,     9

             Li       Fe        I         Sb       U       Ta      S      Pa     N

Part B.   9,    99,    30,     95,     19,     47,     79

             N      U       Fe      Ra      S       Mo     Ta

Which of the above solutions could be used to remove lead from lead (II) nitrate?
alisha [4.7K]

Ni solution could be used to remove lead from lead (II) nitrate.

Explanation:

The removal of lead from lead nitrate will take place by displacement reaction.

In displacement reaction less reactive element is displaced by more reactive element form it compound.

The reactivity is decided by the placement of metal in the activity series.

A metal which is at higher position in the activity series will be able to displace the metal or element having lower position.

From the options given we will check their position in the activity series in comparison to Pb

Cu is lower in series than Pb hence cannot displace.

Hg is placed lower in the series than Pb hence cannot displace Pb.

Ag is placed lower than Pb in the series hence cannot displace Pb.

Ni is placed above the Pb in activity series hence can displace lead.

What is the mass of carbon dioxide formed when 36g of carbon is burnt?<br> C+O2 -------&gt;C02
Anestetic [448]

Answer:

Mass = 132 g

Explanation:

Given data:

Mass of CO₂ formed = ?

Mass of C burnt = 36 g

Solution:

Chemical equation:

C + O₂    →    CO₂

Number of moles of carbon:

Number of moles = mass/molar mass

Number of moles = 36 g/ 12 g/mol

Number of moles = 3 mol

now we will compare the moles of carbon and carbon dioxide.

                C           :        CO₂

                 1           :         1

                3           :         3

Mass of CO₂:

Mass = number of moles × molar mass

Mass = 3 mol × 44 g/mol

Mass = 132 g

What is the equation for photosynthesis?
AlladinOne [14]

Answer: the process of photosynthesis is commonly written as: 6CO2 + 6H2O → C6H12O6 + 6O2. This means that the reactants, six carbon dioxide molecules and six water molecules, are converted by light energy captured by chlorophyll (implied by the arrow) into a sugar molecule and six oxygen molecules, the products.
