The transcription factor AP-1 is a heterodimer consisting of c-jun and c-fos. C-jun and c-fos are soluble proteins that can be l

ocalized to either the cytosol or nucleus of a cell. C-jun and c-fos dimerize through a leucine zipper motif. In a leucine zipper motif, every 7 amino acid residues, or 2 full turns of an alpha helix, are leucine resides. Leucine and other amino acids on one face of the helix come together to form an opposite alpha helix that has a similar arrangement of leucine and other amino acids. Which solvent would be LEAST favorable for c-fos/c-jun dimerization?

Answer:

Hexane

Explanation:

Generally, leucine is hydrophobic in nature and it has a carbon-hydrogen side chain. Therefore, it is not advisable to use an hydrophobic solvent because the leucine zipper would interact with both the opposite alpha helix and the solvent. This will ultimately hinder the dimer creation. Thus, the best solvent which is the least polar in the list is hexane.

Given the equation representing a reversible reaction:which formula represents the h+ acceptor in the forward reaction?
AnnyKZ [126]
Question is incomplete. Complete question is attached below
.............................................................................................................................

Answer: Option A: HCO3-(aq.)

Reason:
From the reaction, it can be seen that following reaction occurs in forward direct

HCO3-(aq)     +     H2O(l)      →      H2CO3(aq)     +      OH-(aq)

In above forward reaction, HCO3- accepts proton from H2O to generate H2CO3. Thus, according to Lowry and Bronsted theory of acid-base, HCO3- is a base, while H2CO3 is a conjugate acid.

Why does a 4 carbon linear alkane, butane c4h10, have two more hydrogens ?
Scilla [17]
Alkanes are hydrocarbons that only contain single bonds in them. A carbon can bond with up to 4 atoms, even with another carbon atom. So, in a C-C bond, 3 more H atoms can bond to each of the C atom. Generally, the chemical formula for alkanes is CₓH₂ₓ₊₂. So for butane, there are 4 C atoms. The corresponding H atoms are 2(4) + 2 = 10. That's why it's chemical formula is C₄H₁₀.
