What is the relation between the wavelength, λ, and the momentum, p, of a particle? Roughly what kinetic energy should an electr

on have in order for its wavelength be of roughly an "atomic" distance scale? Re-express this as the number of volts needed to accelerate that electron from rest to this energy. Would you call this a high-voltage device?

Answer:

λ = h/p

<u>E=2.41*10^{-17}Joules</u>

This energy is equivalent to E=150.44eV

Explanation:

<u>de Broglie Equation:</u>

λ = h/p

h=6.63×10-34 m2 kg / s        Planck's constant

so: p=h/λ

On the other hand, an atomic distance, an angstrom, is equal:10^{-10}m, λ should be similar to this distance.

<u>Kinetics Energy of a electron, m=9.11×10−31 kg</u>

<u>E=\frac{p^{2}}{2m_e}=\frac{h^{2}}{2\lambda^{2}m_e} =\frac{(6.63*10^{-34})^{2}}{2*(10^{-10})^{2}*9.11*10^{-31}}=2.41*10^{-17}Joules</u>

<u>Number of volts needed to accelerate that electron from rest to this energy:</u>

E=Vq_{e}

V=E/q_{e}=2.41*10^{-17}/(1.602*10^{-19})=150.44Volts

So, this energy is equivalent to E=150.44eV

This high-voltage device is called: particles accelerator

A 48 kg cart is sitting motionless at the top of the hill. At what height, did the cart start at, to reach 88435 J of energy at
svet-max [94.6K]

Answer : The height is 188 meters

Explanation :   When the cart reached at the end from top of hill then the cart have potential energy .

Given that,

Potential energy = 88435 J

Mass of cart = 48 kg

We know that,

The potential energy is

mgh =88435

h= \dfrac{88435}{48\times9.8}

h = 187.9 = 188\ meters

So, the height of the top is 188 meters.

Heat is added to an open pan of water at 100.0°c, vaporizing the water. the expanding steam that results does 43.0 kj of work, a
vampirchik [111]
Heat = change in internal energy + Work done The internal energy of a system = heat added and mechanical work done by the system, i.e. U = Q + W rearranging the formula above, will give us: Q = deltaU + W
Q = U - W = 604 kJ - 43.0 kJ = 561,000 J would be the answer.

A sinusoidal electromagnetic wave from a radio station passes perpendicularly through an open window that has area 0.320 m2. at
AlexFokin [52]
Remember, half of the energy in an EM wave is in the E field, the rest is in the B field. Thus, multiply E field energy by 2.
To calculate the energy of the wave you must then use the following equation: W = A*t*c*2*(1/2*E^2*Eo). Where, A = Area, t = time, c = speed of light (which is a constant), E = Electric field, E0 = vacuum permittivity (8.85*10^-12 Nm^2/C^2). Substituting W =(0.320)*(26)*(3*10^8)*(2)*((1/2)*(1.95*10^-2)^2*(8.854*10^-12)) = 8.40*10^-6 J
