A skier is moving down a snowy hill with an acceleration of 0.40 m/s2. The angle of the slope is 5.0∘ to the horizontal. What is

the acceleration of the same skier when she is moving down a hill with a slope of 10 ∘? Assume the coefficient of kinetic friction is the same in both cases.

Answer:

1.25377 m/s²

Explanation:

m = Mass of person

g = Acceleration due to gravity = 9.81 m/s²

\mu = Coefficient of friction

\theta = Slope

From Newton's second law

mgsin\theta-f=ma\\\Rightarrow mgsin\theta-\mu mgcos\theta=ma\\\Rightarrow \mu=\frac{gsin\theta-a}{gcos\theta}\\\Rightarrow \mu=\frac{9.81\times sin5-0.4}{9.81\times cos5}\\\Rightarrow \mu=0.04655

Applying \mu to the above equation and \theta=10^{\circ}

mgsin\theta-\mu mgcos\theta=ma\\\Rightarrow a=gsin\theta-\mu gcos\theta\\\Rightarrow a=9.81\times sin10-0.04655\times 9.81\times cos10\\\Rightarrow a=1.25377\ m/s^2

The acceleration of the same skier when she is moving down a hill is 1.25377 m/s²

Stels [109]

Complete Question

Question 18 (3 points) Solve the problem. (3 points) A solar reflector is made using 31 identical triangular-shaped mirrors, each having sides 2.4m, 2. 3m, 1.5 m. What is the total surface area of the reflector?

A) 33 m2

B) 86 m2

C) 52 m2

D)  34 m2

Answer:

The value is  Area  =2.78 \   m^2

Explanation:

From the question we are told that

   The  sides are  a =  2.4 m

                             b  =  2.3 m

                             c  =  1.5 m

Generally the semi perimeter is mathematically represented as

           s = \frac { a + b  + c  }{2 }

=>       s = \frac { 2.4  + 2.3  + 1.5   }{2 }

=>       s =3.1  \  m

Generally the using Heron's  formula we have that the  surface are a is  mathematically represented as

            Area  =  \sqrt{S (S -  a) (S - b )(S - c ) }

=>         Area  =  \sqrt{3.1  (3.1  -   2.4) (3.1  -  2.3 )(3.1  -  1.5 ) }

=>        Area  =2.78 \   m^2

2. Can you place three forces of 5g, 6g, and 12g so they are in equilibrium. Justify your answer.
Bond [772]

Answer:

We cannot place three forces of 5g, 6g, and 12g in equilibrium.

Explanation:

Equilibrium means their sum must be zero.

Here the forces are 5g, 6g, and 12g.

For number of forces to be in equilibrium the magnitude of largest vector should be less than sum of the magnitude of other vectors.

Here

        Magnitude of largest force = 12 g

        Sum of magnitudes of other forces = 5g + 6g = 11g

       Magnitude of largest force >   Sum of magnitudes of other forces

So this forces cannot form equilibrium.

We cannot place three forces of 5g, 6g, and 12g in equilibrium.

Four students measured the same line with a ruler like the one shown below. The results were as follows: 5.52 cm, 6.63 cm, 5.5,
finlep [7]

Answer:

correct answer is 1 and 3

Explanation:

In direct measurement with an instrument, the precision or absolute error of the instrument is given by its appreciation, in this case we see that the measurements have two decimal places, so the appreciation of the instrument must be 0.01 cm

Based on this appreciation, the valid measurements are 5.52 and 5.5.

the other two measurements have errors much higher than the assessment of the instrument, for which there must have been some errors in the measurement.

The correct answer is 1 and 3
