According to the reactivity series of metals, Mg is more reactive than H. Therefore, this reaction is spontaneous.
Hope this helps~

What is the pH of a solution with a concentration of 1.8 × 10-4 molar H3O+?
Andre45 [30]
PH is defined as the negative log of Hydrogen ion concentration. Mathematically we can write this as:

pH=-log[H^{+}]=-log[H_{3}O]

We are given the concentration of H_{3}O. Using the value in formula, we get:

pH=-log[1.8*10^{-4}]=3.745

Therefore, the pH of the solution will be 3.745

2C -H bonds and one C-C bond are formed while enthalpy change (dH) of the reaction,
H-H: 432kJ/mol
C=C: 614kJ/mol
C-C: 413 kJ/mol
C-C: 347 kJ/mol
dH is equal to sum of the energies released during the formation of new bonds or negative sign, and sum of energies required to break old bonds or positive sign.
The bond which breaks energy is positive.
432+614 =1046kJ/mol
Formation of bond energy is negative
2(413) + 347 = 1173 kJ/mol
dH reaction is -1173 + 1046 =-127kJ/mol

C2H5OH(l) + 3O2(g) → 2CO2(g) + 3H2O(l), ΔH = –1.37 × 103 kJ For the combustion of ethyl alcohol as described in the above equati
babymother [125]

Answer:

The true statements are: I. The reaction is exothermic.

II. The enthalpy change would be different if gaseous water was produced.

Explanation:

The given chemical reaction: C₂H₅OH(l) + 3O₂(g) → 2CO₂(g) + 3H₂O(l),  ΔH= -1.37×10³kJ

1. In an exothermic reaction, heat or energy is released from the system to the surrounding. Thus for an exothermic process the change in enthalpy is less than 0 or negative (ΔH < 0) .

Since the enthalpy change for a combustion reaction is negative. <u>Therefore, the given reaction is exothermic.</u>

2. The change in enthalpy (ΔH) of a reaction is equal to difference of the sum of standard enthalpy of formation (ΔHf°) of the products and the reactants.

ΔHr° = ∑ n.ΔHf°(products) − ∑ n.ΔHf°(reactants)

As the value of ΔHf° of water in gaseous state and liquid state is not the same.

<u>Therefore, the enthalpy change of the reaction will be different, if gaseous water was present instead of liquid water.</u>

3. An oxidation-reduction reaction or a redox reaction involves simultaneous reduction and oxidation processes.

The given chemical reaction, represents the combustion reaction of ethanol.

Since combustion reactions are redox reactions. <u>Therefore, the given combustion reaction is an oxidation-reduction reaction.</u>

4. According to the ideal gas equation: P.V =n.R.T

Volume (V) ∝ n (number of moles of gas)

Since the number of moles (n) of gaseous reactants is 3 and number of moles of gaseous (n) products is 2.

<u>Therefore, the volume occupied by 3 moles of the reactant gaseous molecules will be more than 2 moles product gaseous molecules.</u>

AURORKA [14]

Blue litmus paper turns red in the presence of an acid. Therefore, it can be assumed that the substance in the beaker is an acid.

Acids have a pH level of less than 7. Consequently, it can be assumed that the substance has a pH level less than 7.

The equilibrium constant, Kc, for the following reaction is 5.10×10-6 at 548 K. NH4Cl(s) NH3(g) + HCl(g) Calculate the equilibri
levacccp [35]

<u>Answer:</u> The equilibrium concentration of HCl is 2.26\times 10^{-3}M

<u>Explanation:</u>

We are given:

Moles of NH_4Cl(s) = 0.564 moles

Volume of vessel = 1.00 L

Molarity is calculated by using the equation:

\text{Molarity}=\frac{\text{Number of moles}}{\text{Volume of solution (in L)}}

Molarity of NH_4Cl=\frac{0.564}{1}=0.564M

The given chemical equation follows:

                  NH_4Cl(s)\rightleftharpoons NH_3(g)+HCl(g)

<u>Initial:</u>         0.564

<u>At eqllm:</u>     0.564-x          x              x

The expression of K_c for above equation follows:

K_c=[NH_3][HCl]

The concentration of pure solid and pure liquid is taken as 1.

We are given:

K_c=5.10\times 10^{-6}

Putting values in above equation, we get:

5.10\times 10^{-6}=x\times x\\\\x=2.26\times 10^{-3}M,-2.26\times 10^{-3}M

Negative sign is neglected because concentration cannot be negative.

So, [HCl]=2.26\times 10^{-3}M

Hence, the equilibrium concentration of HCl is 2.26\times 10^{-3}M
