Alfred Wegener

Explanation:

Alfred Wegener in 1912, proposed the theory of continental drift from his careful studies of different land masses. From his observations, he suggested the following:

  • Some fossils of tropical plants were found in polar and temperate regions.
  • Fossils of mesosaurus were found in South America and South Africa now separated by the Atlantic ocean.
  • He fitted the continents into a giant land mass puzzles.
  • Coal beds in Europe were similar to those in United States.
  • Mountain chains in the edge of West Africa was similar to that of Eastern part of South America.

His theory lacked a mechanism which facilitated the plate movement.

Melts in the system pb-sn exhibit regular solution behavior. at 473°c apb = 0.055 in a liquid solution of xpb = 0.1. calculate t
Masteriza [31]
Given the temperature 746 K and activity of Pb equal to 0.055. The mole fraction of Pb is 0.1. So, the mole fraction of Sn = 0.9.Activity coefficient, γ = 0.055 / 0.1 = 0.55.The expression for w=ln⁡〖γ_Pb x RT〗/(X_Sn^2 )=(-0.5978 x 8.314 J/(mol K ) x 746 K)/(0.9 x 0.9)= -4577.7 J= -4578 J

Now we use the computed value above and new temperature 773 K. The mole fraction of Sn and Pb are 0.5 and 0.5 respectively. Calculate the activity coefficient in the following manner.lnγ_Sn=w/RT  X_Pb^2=(-4578 J)/(8.314 J/mol  x 773 K)  x 0.5 x 0.5= -0.718lnγ_Sn=exp⁡(-0.178)=0.386The activity of  Sn= γ_Sn  x X_Sn=0.386 x 0.5=0.418
w of the system is -4578 J and the activity of Sn in the liquid solution  of xsn at 500 degree Celsius is 0.418

Can anyone give me examples of control groups ?
alexgriva [62]

Answer:

In an experiment in which blood pressure medication is tested, one group is given the blood pressure medication while the control group is given a placebo pill.

In a test of anxiety treatment, one group attends individual therapy sessions and receives a new medication. The control group receives only an inert pill.

A treatment for drug addiction is being tested. A group of meth addicts are given the treatment while the control group is given the placebo.

Researchers are testing the effectiveness of a drug intended to reduce symptoms of Crohn's disease. Many sufferers of Crohn's disease are recruited for the effort and the group that receives the placebo is the control group.

A treatment for hair loss in men is being tested. Men of the same age range are gathered. One group receives an application with the active ingredient while the control group receives an application that appears the same but does not have the active ingredient in it.

hope this helped you
